Hi there. Story author here. Thanks again to Dr. Creepen for reading my story. I particularly liked doing this one, as sci-fi/horror and apocalyptic logs are my favorite kind of tale. There do seem to be a couple of questions that I should address, so if you don't want spoilers you should listen to the story first and then read this comment. First, the "2,000 miles" concern. Yes, I'm well aware of the vast distances in space. Perhaps I was low-balling the signal distance too much. But the idea is this - the ship's communication array is down and the escape pod's array isn't able to transmit far (technobabble power problems excuse in play here). Otherwise he'd just be sending a call through the pod. His plan in the end was very much a last-ditch desperate plan to expose Jericho. His hope was that if he died close to the station, his signal burst would get caught by other ships and transmitters in or around the station, so that Jericho couldn't stop the release of his logs. 2000 miles is plenty of distance to transmit around a busy space port (it's the distance between Earth and low-Earth Orbits). Still, there were any number of ways the plan couldn't have worked... and a few ways it could have gone horribly right. And why was the ship called Achilles IV? Well, it's the fourth ship in the Jericho fleet to use that name. I'll leave it to your imagination as to why Jericho likes that name so much, or what happened to the last three ships.

This was a great slow burn kind of tale. Turned out better than I thought, the author was creative in how it ended and the story works as a reminder of how we as workers are often faced with situations beyond our control that are caused by greedy corporations.

Sci Fi Horror is one of my favorite genres. Movies like Alien, Aliens, Event Horizon, Paradox etc. I just can't get enough of them. If people have other movies and/or books to suggest, I'd be very grateful. You knocked this story out of the universe, doc. Your narration skills really made this a movie in my mind ❣❣❣😎✨✨😎👍🏻😊 Thank you (and the authors of course) for all your hard work and sharing these amazing stories with us !

This feels like an abridged mashup of Alien, The Martian and, fittingly, The Expanse... Which could be a horror show of its own.. but isn't. Instead, it's a tight, gripping horror story which you, Dr. Creepen, narrate superbly. Kudos to you and the writer!

Beautiful story, beautifully narrated. The story had shades of The Martian (in the best possible way, I love that book) with the log entries and the survivalist pragmatism in the narrator, and an added bonus of an honest character trying to out an evil company. The frame story of the Alpha Centauri station's automated announcements was SO GOOD, it took me a bit to even realize that's what it was and how it was connected but it really worked well!
@stevenhetzel64832 жыл бұрын
Literally no shades of The Martian whatsoever. Sci Fi and Hard Sci Fi are as similar are cake and lollipops. And this has the added genre of Horror. And a evil company... Literally couldn't have chosen a worse sci fi comparison if you tried.

Yes.. I think deep space horror like this works well partly because it kinda parallels the marine horror trope of being lost/adrift at sea with no hope of rescue.. something our mammalian brains naturally fear.. maybe. Either way, every future space mariner should familiarize themselves with the Alien franchise while studying at space school, because any spaceships that come across an alien biohazard will surely have a crew member (human or synthetic) or semi-sentient spaceship tasked with delivering said space biohazard to their corporate space overlords.. while probably trying to flush the honest crew into space, through the space ports, without space suits. So be prepared space peeps.. there's a lot of lonely, scary af space out there :D

I definitely would love more scifi horror stories. This once could have been part of the Alien movie universe especially with Jerico being very much like Weyland Yutani. Some more horrific tropes to add would be stories involving body horror type stories happening to astronauts,maybe stories set in an Event Horizon type realm,stranded crews trying to hole up in their ship trying to either repair it or wait for rescue while alien monstrosities try to tear open the ship and the horror of advanced aliens vivisecting crews after abducting them from a ship or small lunar base.
