First and foremost thank you for the whole recovery series I’m about to take the cast off in two days and the tingling kind of sucks Your recovery is very important to all of us… I’m a former Olympic level judo & Jiu-jitsu athlete and I can’t wait to be “normal” again…

Dr. Stacey, thank you for your Achilles recovery insights. I too just had my cast off, my surgeon feels I have 1-2 weeks non weight bearing. My rupture was shredded so I won’t start PT for 3 weeks. Longer to heal because of the difficulty of sewing the tendon together. I have no mental issues, just anxious to get back to working out. Thank you!

You are an amazing person! Seeing your workouts, remaining positive despite the challenges is inspiring to me!! I suffered a complete Achilles tare. Monday I go in for my 2week post opp appt. Hoping for some good news, and to get into a walking boot of some sort. I'm 52 and was a "casual" lifter before my injury. You have inspired me to first, get my achillies healthy, and try to get back into shape during the healing process.

Great job with your recovery. Proprioception training is very important! Luckily my therapist really pushed me on this and I feel that was key for my recovery. Also toe and foot strength was key for me. I remember picking up marbles with my toes and putting them in a bucket! I did that everyday! I lost muscle mass pretty quickly in my calf. But it does come back!!!! You will get there! One day at a time!

Amazing video! I had a complete tear of my right Achilles, I had surgery 3 days ago, and I’m very looking forward to the process of getting back in my feet! My post Op appointment is about 2 weeks away. It’s nice seeing videos like this your very positive and I vibe with that because I am too! I think I’ll be walking even sooner then they think 😊. I’m glad your healing well I with you the best!

I had my surgery 7 days ago what emotion journey. I had surgery on my calorific Achilles tendinitis, gastrocnemius equines, and Haglund deformity. The pain is horrible. My foot is a cast right now. Dr said I probably will have a cast for 8 weeks then boot for another 6 weeks 😢

I am at 3 weeks, I was in a soft cast first, now the hard cast and I get this off in a week, I am 60+ this video has so much info I was wondering about. I have a big event in one week and I will be in the boot for one day. I think it is going to tough. Day 2 in the cast was horrible pain and swelling. It was the absolute worst since surgery. Thank you for such valuable info.

I am on the support group as well. I had my right achilles tendon tear repair surgery and heel spur on Dec 16th. I am 5 weeks out tomorrow still non weight bearing which is very hard for me. I post a video on the support group about a under desk elliptical I have. I see my surgeon next week Wed for my 6 week post op. I am ready to be out of this boot already. Its hurting the back of my heel.

Nice video. I could tell weightlifter with those arms. Me: Apr 16 injury, went to er knowing what was wrong, er did their job and sent me to ortho. Va ortho sent me home for a week since no appointment. May 15th sx. 3 weeks temp cast, 4 weeks permanent/hard cast. My leg wasn't cleaned after 3 weeks temp cast when perma cast was put in. I asked for therapy they said not yet for like 8 weeks. June 11th I cut off the cast myself & put on my boot. In my defense I did tell the doc I didn't want the hard cast. My friend who is an occupational therapist says just listen to surgeon. I think 20 yr or 68 their policy and timeline is the same.

I hope all is going well with your recovery! They should work for both non surgical and surgical repair but you can always discuss with your surgeon and your local PT. My team is more than happy to help you with your recovery if you are looking for a physical therapist (local or via video) :)

Hey I’m going on 3 weeks post op from my Achilles’ tendon rupture. I had my cast removed last week and am now in a walking boot. Should you able to see the surgically repaired Achilles at this time? When I look at my ankle it still looks the same as prior to surgery with the gap. I was expecting to see the tendon pronounced like on my other non injured foot.

My Achilles was really swollen and is still quite swollen post op so that could be the case for you as well. If you have any concerns though I would definitely talk with your surgeon.

I am so sorry to hear that you are going through this injury! I definitely do not want anyone else to join the Achilles warriors club! I would recommend finding a local PT that uses BFR as that is crucial to help maintain muscle mass that along with creatine and additional protein!

@marcosjsantiago that's kinda awesome that you guys got to take your first steps together. Though I know how killer this injury is (I'm only 3 weeks in) the mental and physical parts really bring you down hard-core. @@alwaysreturnNurgirl oh trust me that part was the worst to get past, as someone who is always outdoors doing things it was hard for me to cope with not being able to do the things I normally do but trust me once you get cleared to at least put some type of pressure on your foot in your boot you’ll start to feel all of that lift off of your shoulders. I haven’t gone back into my normal routine just yet but slowly doing so
