The best video that I have seen about aircraft construction on KZbin

Great Dream. I was involved in building a Fokker Dr.1 and D-VII in Sonoma CA in the mid 1980s. They were inspiring projects and I have fond memories of the time. The Dr.1 can be seen in the San Diego Air and space Museum.

It is a pity that these plans didn't come fruition the way you envisaged it. I would surely have visited your Fokker-museum (museum plant). Maybe someday?

Well, I'm already Fooking Nuts. . .so I'm Half way there. . .Only built a D7 at 1/4 scale. .it fly's well but alas. .too small for me to get in. Would love to build a full size. Your Museum is a brilliant idea. . I hope you get the funding you need to make it happen.

Please consider Ohio & Pennsylvania In the US as these states have VERY little Tax and legal restrictions on private aircraft ownership. Penn a few year back dropped taxes on aircraft to spur a rise in aviation economics in its state. There is even a flying antique museum in Bethlehem Penn with a flying Dr.1 with a real working rotary. Also I have flown to and landed several times to nearby Fokker Field in Moundsville WV once a Fokker factory here in us. Aircraft restrictions are so less strict here in the US then they are in Europe

V M Yeates author of Winged Victory & RFC Camel pilot observes that the late War Fokkers were relatively fragile under gunfire (probably because of the absence of bracing wires). So these aerodynamically clean aircraft were superior machines except in their ability to absorb machine gun fire.
@AchimEngels Жыл бұрын
The reverse conclusion would be that the aerodynamically and structurally weaker aircraft survive under fire and damage to load-bearing components only because their many wires hold them together. Well, that is a view that can be held althoug illogical, since the wing spars of a Fokker can take plenty of bullet holes due to its design features, while a Sopwith camel has a single piece spar which can not hold a lot of damage either. If a Hs 123 had had tension wires, it probably would not have fallen apart until later in the event of a spar break due to bullet holes. There ar no reports other than your emntioned pilot claims of late war Fokkers to fall apart under fire - but here is plenty of images showing aircraft of late war periods with patched bullet holes which in essence contradict that statement. Fact is, the Foker designs paved teh way for post war aircraft development, not the Sopwith designs. Nothing new was in them them. Wooden fusleages, ordinary thin airfoil wings, bracing which aerodynamically innefficient....etc.....and teh Camel even has a reputation of killing more own than enemy pilots...not sure if that is actually true though.

@AchimEngels the author's personal observations were obviously entirely subjective & made from experience of great stress (he was involved in extensive ground staffing operations in the Spring of 1918). He does, however, mention several observed events where the wings of Fokker Triplanes folded up & collapsed. Deaths in training on the Camel were very extensive & it has been said that had it been introduced in peace time, it would have been rejected as far too instable.

Boy this is a great idea. But I think you'd be spending far more money than would be possible to make. Maybe if you can get a market to sell the planes.

I quit using money, therefore that project is no longer persuaded.
