But if the volume doesn't remain constant would I be able to use just the ratio of moles Sir, or is it best to convert

However this doesn’t apply to every Q right? Because I seem to not get right answer when I didn’t convert back to the neconcentration and plug it into equation
@easymodeexams33Ай бұрын
@Beautifulday1231r nah you need concentration every time, unless the volume within 'c=n/v' in the top and bottom of the fraction are equal and cancel, leaving "c=n", allowing you to use either c or n. The Ka expression is all about concentrations so use concentrations, NOT MOLES, if you're unsure if the volumes can be cancelled.

If this question was with diprotic base, would you times concentration by X2 ? Then use the moles of OH to workout out the new number of moles fo HA and A- .
@easymodeexams33 Жыл бұрын
That is beyond the A-level spec mate, so don't worry about it :) If you're genuinely interested and really want to know, here's a video from another channel explaining it: kzbin.info/www/bejne/q5jCdnyKodutm6s&ab_channel=JacobStewart

I want to make it clear that this method applies to all buffer calculations that involve adding a small amount of acid or alkali solution (which is most cases). The method is slightly different when you're adding a solid base (e.g., NaOH) to partially neutralise the weak acid. If I get some time I can make a exam question walkthrough on this too.

Please make this video🙏🏼, i was just about to ask why on an exam question they hadn’t added the moles of the base, and only subtracted one part. ( for ref paper 1 2022 question 4.5)

Why is the moles being used in the final equations instead of the concentrations? Aren’t we meant to use concentration because of the square brackets in the KA formula? Thanks x
@muchayevamadzimure8895 Жыл бұрын
you can use either moles or concentration im pretty sure based off the question. if you use concentration you will still get the same pH as with moles - it just depends on what the question gives you
@LilMiro11 ай бұрын
If you write it out, the concentrations cancel out since they’re on the top and bottom of the division
