#1 Timing Matters - take the SAT fall of your sophomore year, that way you have time to retake it later on if you need to #2 Take Practice Tests - review your answers, analyze them #3 Mindset - without the right mindset you cannot accomplish anything • have a goal • use affirmations • write down your motivations for doing this

@MamaChilanga4 жыл бұрын
The PSAT/NMSQT is only offered junior year. The PSAT10 that some (not all) schools offer sophomore year does NOT count for merit money. Finally, the vast majority of US sophomores have not yet learned the Math they need to ace the SAT. Their prep will be easier and their scores will rise faster if they take the SAT in the spring of junior year. That’s because the SAT assumes students have had three full years of HS Math. Kids on an accelerated Math track might be ready to take the SAT fall of junior year, but most experienced college counselors do not recommend test prep before summer of junior year.
@micahpalin61363 жыл бұрын
True as a coming in sophomore I feel ready with the math because I’m also taking calculus this year so I’m at a high enough math already but depending on how your school does math, if it is like mine, I would have been able to do it last year as a freshman

@fatpinkypoki2.04 жыл бұрын

@Ms.Glamaris4 жыл бұрын
I think it would be optional because if a lot of people aren’t able to study for the sat then most likely people aren’t going to be able to study for the subject test, because those subjects most likely have to be taught in school

hi iris! so i am a rising senior and i did not get the opportunity to take the SAT yet (I am scheduled for August but I live in LA so COVID is terrible right now and the test will probably get cancelled). i have signed up for September and October as well so I can try to get at least one sitting in before applying ED. this leaves no time for me to take subject tests (I was planning on taking 1-2 but COVID hit). do you think I would be at a disadvantage or do I have special circumstances because I am a senior and your subject test advice was geared more for underclassmen (and would I write in my COVID supplement that I intended to take subject tests)? thank you!
@irisfu69294 жыл бұрын

I think the answer will be solely based on what you want and the research you've done on these majors and your colleges. You can double major or take a minor in something you want to do. Just research more, and if you're still a little shaky on what you want to major, I definitely recommend that you apply to colleges where it's easy to change majors because in some colleges, it can be hard to change your major. @@ablablan Hi, I decided on taking a gap year and I still need to appear for the SAT. I will be taking the SAT and submitting scores for sure. However after commenting this I realised a lot of things about SAT optional- If you're aiming for the T-20s and you're international and you need aid, you have to give the SAT. Even if you don't need aid, but if you're international you should give the SAT. However if you're a domestic student, you need to check if the schools you're applying for require SAT or not, because schools like Georgia Tech now require the SAT once again. A basic rule of thumb (valid for all, domestic, international) for submitting scores to "X" school is- submit only if your score is in 25th & 75th percentile of the university, otherwise you could apply test optional. But if you don't have a great GPA, it's advisable to take the SAT.

Dang she said, “as long as you get a 750 or 770 and above you’ll be fine.” Dang I got a 1070 (on the 1600 one) as a freshman XD Edit: I’m a softmore now and I got a 1180 on the psat.

and did u do correction logs? for example, wrote the question u got wrong, what type of question it was, why u got it wrong and how to avoid it. I saw on Allen Cheng’s website and he did exactly that and got a 1600 i’m just wondering if it’s necessary to do that a lot of people don’t and they still get good scores.

yes i did! i thinik that's super necessary actually (the thing is you have to really think and be present when you do the corrections)

Iris Fu is it also useful if u read the explanations over and over and did practice questions on it. like i did a lot for writing

I wouldn’t say reading them over and over again is productive. Understanding the explanations and reading enough times to fully grasp them is important

what are subject tests exactly, this is the first time I've heard of them
@irisfu69294 жыл бұрын
The college board website gives the best explanation, but they’re basically hour long exams in a given subject

What if I’m only able to take the SAT and not subject tests because of mass cancellations
@irisfu69294 жыл бұрын
Hi Grace, that's completely okay. This year is very special w/ covid and cancelled exams. In fact, most admissions offices are okay with students taking no tests at all. Don't fret too much, and just try to get the tests in whenever you can. If you can't, then no big deal

i have a doubt.. searched the entire internet but still not cleared.. i am good at the math part of the sat exam, but in reading and writing section I make mistakes. so how many questions can I go wrong in Reading and writing and still manage to get 720+ marks in the reading and writing section? I get at least one question wrong in each passage and rarely get 11/11 in passages. Pls answer
