Thanks so much for sharing your journey! I’ve just had my surgery yesterday and really appreciate the tips you give. Will definitely be following every new video to help prepare me for the next weeks. It’s so hard to get your head around not playing the sport you love for a prolonged spell. I’ve started doing a bit of coaching with a football club to help me stay involved in the game whilst rehabbing. All the best in your rehab, you are smashing it 💪

Rooting for you❤️💪🏽 When you realized that you won't be playing in a while I felt for you. Almost a year ago I felt the same. Time goes by fast, take your time to rest and recover. I wish you the best ❤️🥇

Thank you so much for sharing your journey. I tore my ACL exactly one year ago and I've looked towards you for inspiration throughout my own recovery. You're so brave in sharing your moments of sadness and grief, and I look forward to seeing the wins you'll have throughout your recovery this time around.

@@quinn_m1428 hi! I don't do any competitive sports, but I am pretty active. I'm back to running, hiking, backpacking, cycling, swimming, etc. I'm cleared to surf and snowboard again too! Tho I haven't had a chance to do either since being cleared. I found a great PT who focused on ACL rehab and returning to sport with good testing requirements. I'm sorry you're going through this all, but you're not alone! Just take it one day at a time. I hope you're surgery goes well and you can start recovering soon!

Im having my surgery next week! In USA I’ll spent in the hospital maybe 3 hours and then I have to go home . They require you to have someone who can drive you home and take care of you. And surgery is 90.000$ without health insurance, I have to pay 3k out the pocket. Depressing….

Here in the United States hamstrings grafts are not recommended for female athletes because they tend to rupture or stretch are a while. It is good you had a patellar graft which is considered the gold standard. Good luck on your recovery.

Thank you - I’m definitely going to be doing some research into graft types and outcomes, I’ve anecdotally heard more failures from hamstrings for sure

Is the hamstring graft still adequate if you play competitive level sport? That’s the current plan for me but I’m a cricket and badminton player. I’ve had a torn medial meniscus and ruptured ACL for 5 years. Last thing I want is for the graft to lose strength and have to go for another ACL revision like you did. Your thoughts would be much appreciated 😊

There's a lot of factors which contribute to the success of an ACL operation. 1. having a good surgeon who is used to operating on athletes 2. choosing the correct graft. my surgeon had a 98% success rate the first time around with hamstring grafts. so statistically I was unlucky. 3. having a good rehabber to do your rehab with. if the surgery was a success and your graft is solid at 12 weeks. then its down to the hardworking in the gym after that. Hope that helps!

@@sugarfreejello yep, I had a 3pm surgery so I was allowed to eat early in the morning. It depends on what your anaesthetist’s rules are, always follow medical guidance

I have a pillow under my foot to keep my leg elevated when I sleep - I find a hard cushion works best (we use a sofa cushion). Best of luck with your surgery! Let us know how it goes
