Күн бұрын

EP 1 of the Unseen Journey takes a look into the days following the game vs Chelsea 2019 in which I initially got injured. My decision to take surgery in Barcelona, and the emotions that went with the realisation of being out for a minimum of 9-months.
If you have any questions around the documentary feel free to comment and I will try and get back to you.

Hey there Hec, how’s it going man? I hope you’re doing well.. and I also hope you don’t think of me as soft or a cry baby but Im typing this comment as tears fall down my face from crying (not from fear or pain but out of mere frustration). I am a semi pro/amateur footballer and a club/ high school coach for local youth teams in my city and I underwent acl reconstructive surgery about 12 hours ago. Now before my surgery I felt like everything seemed fine and I knew everything was going to be okay. Just like you I tried to keep a positive mental attitude when my injury occurred, already knowing that I more than likely had torn my acl while suffering a similar injury during a game. As time progressed and I did some pre-operation rehab with my physical therapist for a few weeks, I began to feel better. I felt I had reached a peak in my motivation to put forth my best effort, to work hard and to come back stronger than ever. Something I wanted to do for myself mainly but also to be an example to the youth boys and girls that I coach. They motivate me more than you can imagine to work hard and get better. I want to be an inspiration to them and show them that even when you get tested in life and may not see the end of it, there’s always sunshine after the storm. However now that I’m resting/recovering at home, I somehow came across your documentary while being unable to sleep and this is the first episode that I watch. Everything is starting to hit me all over again.. I know that with time I will get healthier and return to my normal self if not stronger.. but its been a tough couple of hours and my mind doesn’t seem to catch a break. Not being able to do much on my own for myself right now is very hard on me mentally. I feel like I’m useless and a burden to those who surround me. At times I also question how good of a comeback I will be able to make or how of a normal state will my knee/leg be able to return to. But what really hurts me the most is not being able to be on the pitch at the moment. 💔 Whether its to coach my youth players/teams, to train, to play an actual game or simply to goof around with the lads. It’s an emotional pain I wish no other footballer has to ever experience. I don’t even know why I’m typing this anymore or if you will even get the chance to see it. But as a lover for the beautiful game, something I think we both share in our heart. I’m reaching out now for some advice/comfort from you, a fellow footballer who has also gone through what I am currently experiencing. I’m sure for you it must have been a lot harder as this was your occupation in life. What were some of the things you were able to do to stay positive/happy on the inside even when things would get hard/frustrating?? I hope this comment makes it all the way to you and that you get the chance to reply. I would also say that I hope to one day get to see you in person but I think that’s more of a wish. A wish that I hope comes true. It would be an amazing and very cheerful experience to meet you in person. You know how every footballer has an idol because of how good of a player they once were? Well I think you have now become my idol and not simply because of your skill, but because of your character, your attitude and your strength! ❤️💪🏽 I believe you are someone I can look up to and draw inspiration from. So thank you for being my idol. I wish you nothing but the best! I wish you happiness and the upmost success in your journey of what we call life! Take care Hec! And keep on crushing it! 👊🏽❤️ Sincerely, A fan of yours - Andrew O

Tbf, I snapped my ACL when I was 17, couldn't walk. Was told to strengthen the muscles surrounding the joint whilst I went on a waiting list for surgery. Had surgery 10 years later, it's a big deal, the recovery is hard. Wish I had surgery earlier in hindsight. Worst bit for me now is the scar, the scar on my patella is uncomfortable as fuck.

@@afcsabin yes. Was scheduled for surgery but was told I would be out of activity for 8-16 months depending on how well I applied my recovery work. At the time I had just turned Professional as a Golfer and was playing alot, so I chose not to have the operation, I did alot of recovery and was able to walk and play golf fairly well after 3 months. However, my back, ankle and opposing knee took alot of strain when compensating for the snapped ACL, I now have no end of back problems and have had to stop play Golf competitively. In hindsight, I wish I got the ACL repaired to start with. 🙃

I tore my ACL in my right knee two days ago while playing football. And the very same thing happened where my knee snapped on it's own without anyone touching me. I curled the ball with my right foot to the bottom right corner of the goal and then it tore. What makes it worse is the fact that I've been playing football all my life and this has never happened. I did my warmup and I've been regular to the gym as well. The fear of never returning as the same player frightens me. Watching this has helped me so much. It's reassuring and it's good to know that I'm not alone and that someone has gone through the same thing and has come out stronger. Thank you, @Hector. More power to you!

5th of may it happened to me, 19th of june i had surgery. Now almost 2 months in the recovery fase. I understand its hard for every person but imagen not having medical staff,docters,drivers... and the worst thing, not being able to work but the bills keep coming. He is well taken care off for all those things. I think this relates to 95% of the people that have this injury and don't play sports prof. Lets hope i can keep my house and then think about kicking a ball again.

PLEASE. Big advice because i went through the same thing and I made mistakes. First tip DONT rush take an extra 2 months or so after being cleared to fully strengthen your muscles and skills. Rushing it was my biggest mistakes. Another tip is Make sure you grow a lot of leg muscle so time to hit the gym. Last tip is be cautious on how you play, remember that your ligament now is even more prone to being hurt, so dont be reckless.

Tore my left ACL and lateral meniscus too playing collegiate football here in the states. I still have not decided on what graft and I was wondering which one you decided to pick from. As of now I am more inclined on getting a quad graft. Hope to hear back from you I would really appreciate it.

Imagine going thru exactly the same injury, without all the professional equipment, physios, doctors, treatment, and finally not even surgery. I had to wait 2 years in a queue for surgery to take place, and guess what...it didn't do the job, it usually means that you won't be able to play football even on an amateur level.

I feel the pain he went through not playing football, I didn’t tore my acl tho but I’ve torn both muscles in my right quad and i was out for a few months as i had to rest and not to play football or train so I feel the pain he went through not being able to play but I don’t exactly know the pain from an acl injury but tearing both muscles in your quad kills i played football carried on for a couple months until i went to hospital to find out i tore my muscles and it literally ruins your power on passing, shooting the ability to get the ball in the air etc

Im an Arsenal fan since I knew football in 2000..It has always been my favourite team and football my sport. I have played alot since my junior stages and sadly enough 2 months ago, I did my MRI scan and found out I needed a surgery due to my ACL injury. I had to sit for my final university exams in September and now its 4 days since I had my operation. I love what @HectorBellerin is doing. I really can connect with this. Furthermore today Gunners won 3-1 against Spurs. Thanks alot Hector. You inspire many, I included.
