Acorn Artworks - Drawing Fur in Coloured Pencil

Hi everyone! As requested... A real time video demonstration of how to draw fur with coloured pencil. This is a good video to watch to learn this method or even draw along! Please excuse my occasional silly and limited vocabulary :) ... right from the start!

Hahahaha! Now I'll have to watch this again to see where the barking is! It was soooo much worse before I edited it! The gas truck had pulled up to fill our cylinders... she doesn't like the gas truck and went crazy barking right in the middle of filming. This is why I have started doing voice overs :)

hi.. thank you so much for this tutorial.. got my first comisson of a maltese.. kinda nervous.. but need advice .. don't know if to do the dog first and maybe mask it off or to do the backround first,but then colors of the dog may not come out light enough.. what do u think is the best way to go about it.. any suggestions are greatly appreciated..

I usually do my backgrounds first, but only because if I do my subject first and it turns out good, I'm scared to do the background afterwards. Also because I will sometimes lose interest after the subject is done and not commit to finishing the background. Do whichever way you feel comfortable. Good luck with your project!

To be honest, I haven't tested Faber Castell Watercolour Pencils at this point. The hype about Inktense is that it is meant to be permanent after drying which makes it easier to add layers over the top without smudging what is underneath.

kittypuppykatieboo I use odorless paint thinner or mineral spirits for mine. There is also a new powder blender available through brushandpencil.com and I have heard that is really good as well.

Why are they called coloured pencils still? Shouldn't they be called African American pencils? Just wondering
