Thanks so much for making these videos! With pencils I find it hard to get large areas of either uniform or smoothly changing colour, e.g., day/night sky, close-ups. Also with faces how you decide where to put shadows/highlights. And +1 on clothes suggestion. Sorry for spamming with ideas ...

Kirsty Partridge Art,hello! I was wondering about your colour pencil brands. What colour pencils do you like for portraits and animals, and which solvent do you use ? I'd like to know about your paper.

That's kinda why I think these comparisons are so helpful, though. The "don't" side doesn't do everything wrong. They clearly understand that a drawing needs light and shadow and that different colors need to be built up over time to get a good effect, but they haven't quite figured out yet how much the direction/thickness of every stroke matters and how to layer the colors correctly. It's a realistic starting point for a lot of hobby artists who get the idea but might still be a little too heavy handed to get really good results.

Your videos are really helpful. I find it really easy to identify where my mistakes are when I draw it myself first, and then draw both of your wrong and right examples.

My drawings are not as bad as the don't side but are not even half as good as the do side. But whenever I practice I have high expectations, resulting in me getting upset and throwing it away before I even start. I love this video, but it still makes me sad because I know I'll fail if I try.
@KirstyPartridgeArt6 жыл бұрын
I understand but if you don’t practice things your bad at you definitely won’t improve at them. Everyone creates drawings they don’t like and it is just part of the process. Overtime your drawings will get better and better and you will be proud of yourself for persevering. Fear is one of the biggest things that prevent people from reaching their full potential. Don’t let fear stop you from reaching your full potential. In will take time but you will see progress 😊💕

Im the same way. I get anxiety abiut messing up something I really liie and and up abandoning it
@AManOnline.2 жыл бұрын
I used to have the same problem, I would set the bar WAY too high for what I was capable of realistically doing. This made me super reluctant to start anything and I would usually get pretty frustrated with it and take long breaks from it. I eventually got over this by gradually lowering my expectations until I was drawing at my skill level successfully. After I had done that I started learning and practicing way more, which was how I improved. I'm still not at the quality of the "do" side yet, but I'm getting there

The colored pencils you are using are sooo smooth! The ones I use are much harder. Could this be the reason why my drawings don't look realistic?
@160triedtrue35 жыл бұрын
Yes it's More than likely true But it also depends on the brand of the pencil the more expensive the pencil brands are the better art they usually make at least over here in the UK. Example derwent is a great pencil brand I've used and its hard to go back to crayola or other pencil brands when you've used such luxury vibrant colourful and easy to use pencils perfect for blending and don't brake as easy they are long lasting. only problem is the price being a artist is never cheap and sometimes we have to budget Debating on buying prisma colour pencils they sound great tried Faber-Castell not my cup of tea

how do u make fox-like fur like no curves like those really short fur animals like I said the fox and how do u make fur when your just doing freestyle with no picture/reference photo also thank you for this I am trying to draw more realistic now and do more color to it and add actual fur cause usually it is just the shape/animal it was the type where there was no need for fur but I am trying to learn it so again thanks for this
