I read a lot of the comments here as folks are generally positive. Based on the reading I have done the project you set out on is no longer what it originally was. You set out on an adventure to "re build" a sailing vessel from long ago and retire another by salvaging what she has to offer. you have smashed, broken, and built a good deal of what you originally set out to do. however I wish to submit to you that this endeavor has become much more than a sail boat build, for so many, myself included it has become our journey, a way to make it through painful sleepless nights and take up some time that would otherwise just be wasted on boredom or loneliness. Your ship has begun to carry many of us long before she sees the water, there is or should be comfort in knowing that your vessel will already have a crew aboard even before she is christened and touches the water the first time. I am not a sailor and have never been in dark water but i will when you sail her the first time. on that day, myself and many many others will sail with you. Thank you for having the courage and willingness to do this while the world watches.
@AcornToArabella6 жыл бұрын
Haha Yeah, it has most certainly taken on a life of it's own and has grown and evolved in ways that we never could have imagined. It has been a wild ride so far and it is known that we are far from alone. We never fathomed that so many would connect so strongly with our journey and dream. We are honored that folks have though and are super appreciative of the support and encouragement we have received. It's great to have so many crew along for the ride, it can be daunting having so many eyes following our every move but it's very inspiring at the same time.

Planking next?! You will surely find that the most fulfilling of jobs. All you have to do is make nice and fare strakes, no humps hollows, of fish-tails, evenly sized (including slotter), fine and regular mouth, neat and tidy hid-ends. This is what the watching world will judge the whole build on, so no pressure! Honestly, lock away the power planer and that tormec thing and you will have a blast... Always a good watch, thanks for posting.

Another milestone reached, Boys. Hope you find transport for the new lumber soon. At least it is a dignified end for Victoria. I help out at a local water mill built 210 years ago, that has old ships' timbers in the framing of its 5 stories. Also, the Chatham Dockyards, where HMS Victory was built has some buildings constructed with timber from dismantled ships, so you are keeping up the tradition.

Helo again. I've been watching from the beginning. I wrote once before in the beginning. You have come so far. It is amazing. Thanks for the details and information. I have looked up the books you talked about in one of the videos. I have ordered several from Salt and Tar, Tally Ho and your ship. I would love to build one some day but I am getting older and other health issues may prevent me. I may still try. Keep up the good work and I can't wait till you launch one day. I would love to stop by for a visit but again I have some other problems with one being transportation due to my blindness. Yup, I went totally blind (I have gained a small amount of vision back but there are dead spots and deformed vision issues), but I do more than just about everyone says I can do. I am a blacksmith before I went blind,. I worked stained glass. I do pottery and am a sculptor of stone and more. I am just now trying to get started again to doing some of my work. I have a piece of property now also and enough room to build a ship. I may not be in the best place for getting to the highway but one thing at a time. Maybe I will sell and bet a better place once I have improved this place and so on. Once again Thanks for all your details and info. and keep up the good work! :D

So, you guys are planning to put the planking up as the next step. I am inexperienced, but to me the logical next step would be to put in the floors and deck beams so that the frames have the structural support needed for the planking. Can you explain why the planking is going up next instead of the floors and beams?
@AcornToArabella6 жыл бұрын
The floors can be fit before or after, not a big deal one way or the other there. The deck beams will come once planking is on and then the molds can be pulled out. Until the planks are on and the deck beams are installed it is the molds that define the shape and give her structure.
