A project like SailCargo is a demonstration of hope that world can be a better place. With the challenges we are about to face as humans we are going to need good will and hope from so many. Cutting our energy abuse in the northern hemisphere is going to be hard. A better place for everyone will mean a good few people will need to come to terms with global reality. Projects like this are addressing an in-balance that should have been corrected long ago and will now have to. Way to go guys. Hurrah.

Can hardly wait to watch your trip to the foreign shipyard. Hope that it will be at least a little bit like a vacation for all of you. And maybe at some point in the future you will sail to this location with Arabella!? Thanks a lot for making taping editing uploading and sharing. Thanks, it's something we need to get looked at but likely going to be closer to the spring. The machine was used hard before we got it and there are likely both leaks and worn O-rings.
@aserta
@aserta 4 жыл бұрын
Considering that the whole rear sags + the boom + the bucket, the leak is likely in the valve heart. It's a daunting operation, to change stuff in there, but as jobs go (DIY format) it's actually the cheapest. A cylinder has a heck of a lot more going on, plus the potential to bugger it up permanently. The valve block is just that, a valve block.

Great job guys, steaming planks is an art. I'd recommend you try a wallpaper stripper to pour steam via the 3/8" hose to your bag. It is continuous and can be topped up, it's electric and easy to plug and play. It works a treat on my steam box when I steamed oak frames on my classic open day boat, pitch pine on oak, 1965. The class dates 1911- present day. Also another great tip is to use a meat thermometer bi-metallic type to measure temp, it measures at he point and can be put near the wood.

If the dude was a member of the unit on his shirt, he is more badass than he will ever tell anyone. As a former marine myself knowing most people aren't going to just wear someone else's unit, i will say that he most likely was a member of the MARSOC Raiders (the unit on his shirt). They are similar to the seals, they operate in teams of like 14 or 15 including a corpsman. Maybe not as hardcore or fantasized about as the seals, but make no mistake, these guys are the last thing you never see if they are looking for you. No better friend, no worse enemy, YUT!

9:30 oh don’t those curves look beautiful 😊😍 I’m so loving following your channel … I started watching that chap called Bob who you met at the Wooden boat building festival around this time… can’t remember his channel name but he’s the sculptor Another great channel to watch… so along with Leo, yourself, Bob and Ship Happens I’m starting to get some inspiration to maybe build a small boat like Bob did. I have just a little Mirror dinghy sitting on my property that’s been waiting about 5 years for me to rebuild lol… you would have done it in a weekend lol 😂 I’m 57 and a bit top old to take on a project like yours but building a small 12 foot wooden boat would give me a very small taste of what it’s like to build a boat in the form of something like you are doing. I love seeing all the wood working skills, the carving the moulding, the fitting it’s amazing. Cheers guys from a very cold central England

You know, given how much steam you probably should be doing, it might be a good idea to look around for a tool made for the job. Namely, a used industrial carpet steamer or wall paper remover. You could actually build small, reusable drop down boxes to use on the planks. Staple plastic to the bottom and run the steam in one side and out the other. Use them on the major bend areas fore and aft as you do each one. Just a suggestion.

@Mark Grudt - Because by the time you get a plank out of the box and in position up against the hull, the plank is already cooling down and losing flexibility. By steaming in situ, the plank stays pliable for as long as you need it to.

It looks like the steam will do the trick for those tight twisting bends. It might be that the moisture in the wood is frozen and won't allow the boards to bend in the unheated boat house. Planking is looking good.

We just sent him a message to see if he will be doing a youtube channel but believe that he doesn't have anything going so far.

Maybe make an Amazon wish list for sail cargo. So we can order and have stuff shipped directly to you. Or directly to them if it’s an option. If you make the wish list then you’ll know the tools and supplies we send applicable and are quality. Safety supplies, tools, consumables... put a link in the video subscription.

Guys, I used to ship crates internationally. Many countries require that "Kiln Dried High Temperature" (DKHT) wood is used. Raw wood can contain insect larvae and can cause unwanted infestations like the Chinese originated Emerald Ash Borer Beetle that has devastated forests here in this great nation. Check with your shipper before making your crates as KDHT wood has to be stamped by a designated person (registered with the federal government). Good luck in your shipment and travels.
