We're watching from North Carolina, obviously we just went thru some absolute biblical flooding and the resulting devastation, but I've said this from the beginning, devastation and disaster is the same no matter where you are. We're praying for everyone affected by the fires, and probably the mudslides that will come later as a result. Doesn't matter what it is, Hurricane, Flood, Fire, Earthquake, Tornado, we can all get thru this!

Sad the environmentalists have created this problem by blocking proper forest management for decades allowing the undergrowth to get to thick creating light fuels that make these fires so vicious.

One thing about much of California people often leave out of the discussion. Wildfires are part of the environmental makeup of the area. It evolved to burn on a semi regular basis. Then people moved in and began accumulating their stuff on the landscape. Much of their stuff is also flammable. So when the fire does show up, their stuff adds to the intensity of those fires. However, unlike the natural stuff that grew there, which after a fire for the most part decomposes and goes away or regrows, the people stuff doesn’t really go away that well until they scoop it up and haul it away to dumpster it or recycle it some way. This was and is a devastating loss for all involved. Very sad and upsetting to see. But no one got killed. And only a few were injured. That is the good news. The land is still there. Good news. Roads are still there. Again good news. And over the course of the next year, some rains will come. (Mixed news, as some flooding and erosion damage will occur to add some additional woes.) The moisture will encourage the local green stuff to rejuvenate and grow again. And color and foliage will return to the area. More good news. Folks will return and again put their mark and improvements back onto and into the land. And over time, the devastation will be diminished and the natural and man made beauty will return. Better than before.
@rodsdmba1571Ай бұрын
Bureaucrats almost always make knee jerk decisions based upon realtime public reactions. Actually managing the forests requires labor. Labor costs money. If money was appropriated to fund forest management there would be a huge public pushback, especially from those who don't live in forested areas. My father in law (has since passed) had 400 acres of forested land in Northern California. There was good (not great) cooperation between the local residents and the forestry service in managing the lands with mostly volunteer labor. It's in the interest of the locals to minimize the fire risk so most pitched in. Sure, there's a few bad eggs but you have to accept that there always will be.

I lost everything in the July 2017 " Wall Fire " and am still homeless 7 years later thanks to my homeowners insisting I needed a seperate policy for wildfire. And as a 100% Disabled Veteran there's little chance of recovery for me. So I definitely feel for these folks. I think the Powers that be intentionally let these fires get enormous due to the Federal dollars that gets pumped into the firefighting industry here in California. It's big business with big money involved

Merlin’s an example of a true friend! I’m betting Todd and Denise have quite a few friends willing to help out! My brother in law doesn’t want to owe anyone anything so he avoids helping people unless he’s getting paid to do so! I’ve tried to explain to him that one day disaster might strike and he may need those friends or neighbors but he just don’t get it! Let this story about Todd and Merlin driving through the night with a 5th wheel camper and tool and supplies be an example of why we treat people how we want to be treated. If you know someone who has the same attitude as my brother in law share these two scenarios and just maybe they will wake up and start being neighborly and helping those in need cause we need more of that in this world!
