Seriously I’ve been hunting around KZbin for some guitar instruction to learn the fretboard, with how it all mixes together. Your videos have honestly been some of the best I’ve seen and found quite easy to follow and play. Also love yer Zep stuff

What if your fingers cant stretch 5 frets? I played professional for 30 something odd yrs & that "bar chord" stretching pinky is impossible for me😅, as well as my index finger covering all strings on said bar chords. In the beginning when i thought about taking lessons after id already wrote enough songs with 3 or 4 chords to fill an album/set, i was told might as well leave my M.O. alone since could wreck my organic process. Now ive been called back to duty for future projects & shows in support so trying to expand my bag-o-tricks, friend, but how can someone like me adapt? As a teacher, dont know if you've ever thought about that, but im a dude & can't do it, let alone would imagine plenty of up & coming females & children have same problem. Not even small hands here. They just don't stretch & bend like that. ✌️🌎❤️

Unless your fingers are super short, or there's some other issue, like an injury, you should be able to do it. Not saying it's easy, but I have pretty short fingers and could do it as a child, but it took time. *Try raising your guitar strap.* Helped me a lot, especially when learning Bach and Paganini violin pieces. Taught a lot of players with different hands, & often it's just wearing the guitar too low. Less the wrist bends, the wider the reach. *Go slow, stop if it hurts.* Edit: Also, if the elbow sticks out away from the body too far (or is too tight to the body, not so common but can happen), that limits the reach, too. The fingers should lay comfortably across the fretboard, parallel to the frets.

I understand what you are saying. My fingers *curve* in a strange way and there are certain positions/changes that seem impossible for the anatomy of my hand - but I learned something surprising. As my hands and fingers have become stronger, things that I thought were impossible for me have become possible. Try doing it absurdly slowly - 30bpm, 20bpm, 10bpm - and repeat over and over until your hand gets tired. As slow as you have to go and repeat it every day while SLOWLY increasing speed. If you can’t do it no matter how much time you take, you have to find a cheat. If you’re referring to the stretch from 3rd fret-6th string to 5th & 7th frets-5th string, you can play those same notes on the open 4th string and the 2nd fret-4th string. You’ll have to mute the 5th string but won’t have to make the stretch. Hope that helps.
