I really wish people would start accepting Epiphone as a company in its own right rather than just "cheap Gibsons" because they make great guitars
@bengriffin81008 жыл бұрын
I agree, same with squire and fender in some cases, squier make some really quality jazz basses
@LucasKellis8 жыл бұрын
Yea really I don't think I would buy a Gibson one I'm poor two my Epiphone sounds great it's the ej-200 the difference is like buying a decent Audi or buying an off the line Ferrari you don't really need the Ferrari but if you can afford and feel inclined go for it you definately get royal treatment but it doesn't get you to the destination any better
@TheMasterMacc8 жыл бұрын
Squier and Epiphone are not like a decent Audi. They are more like a normal Ford or Opel/Vauxhall
@30smsuperstrat8 жыл бұрын
I've owned several new epiphones in the last 5 years. Every single one had crap frets. Yes they're pleked and even, but they're rough as sandpaper and its the result of the machining. You can't just steel wool it out, they must be sanded down recrowned and then polished. I wish they would sort it out, cause outside of that some great guitars.
@EvanDavid6668 жыл бұрын
Fully agree!! The Dot and the Casino are excellent guitars same as the Wildkat and the Broadway. Similarly with Squire some of their higher end Jazzmasters. Jaguars and Teles are just as good as most of the mexi fenders I've played

Super cool guitars! Epiphone Masterbilt's are top notch. I live in Memphis and they used to assemble them right here in town--and had live concerts on stage at their place off Beale with them. Epiphone and Gibson are NOT the same. Yes, they make some inexpensive versions of Gibson guitars, but they also have their own models with a LOT of history. Especially if you like old jazz/blues.

I've found a lot of acoustic guitars I've tried in the store have the action set really low. The first thing you'd likely do is adjust the truss rod for a bit of relief - from the buzz.
@luchadorito8 жыл бұрын
one of the key features of most acoustic archtops is that they are meant to have super high action and heavy gauge strings for max. string tension in order to achieve a punchier tone that can cut through 5 horn players playing loud jazz music. But since everybody is two used to super low action nobody would like that...
@legatomodi35226 жыл бұрын
luchadorito trapeze tailpieces and arched tops :/ id have to imagine upper registers werent often played. I think nowadays people play them like piezo (sp??) Dobro type kinda things.
@ernststavroblofeld21094 жыл бұрын
A decent setup and some heavier strings would fix that nasty noise. None of these major manufacturers’ guitars have real setups. If you’ve never had a set up from a legit luthier, try it, but beware, there’s no going back.

@napalmhardcore8 жыл бұрын
Totally off topic but your mentioning Tom and Jerry prompted me to look and see if they do a full Tom and Jerry Collection. The results were rather sad and frustrating. There is a three, double sided (for the UK) DVD release. Unfortunately this has omitted episodes and has been edited due to racially insensitive material. There was another collection in the US that featured the first 37 shorts in chronological order, unedited and where possible restored from the negatives (there was a fire in the '60s, so some of the originals were destroyed). This disc contained on screen warnings that the collection was intended for adult collectors and that there are scenes that may contain racially insensitive material that has been preserved for historical purposes (in my opinion, the right way to go about it) There was a second disc planned but... Prior to its release it was announced that two episodes were to be omitted due to racially insensitive gags, so collectors took to review sites and posted negative reviews (prior to release) in protest. Warner then decided to indefinitely postpone the release. I'm a fan of classic films but trying to track down releases that haven't been butchered with edits, lazy or heavy handed restorations and other technical stuff (like incorrect aspect ratios etc) is seriously frustrating. When even high profile stuff like Star Wars gets butchered it means that something obscure like Jackie Chan films with the original dubs don't stand a chance. In the case of editing racially insensitive gags for old cartoons, I can understand doing it on children's TV, but it should be available to collectors (with disclaimers) as it is art and part of our history. Old films and TV shows are reminders of the way things were at the time which they were made. For example, smoking used to be socially acceptable, but because it is diiscouraged nowadays you won't see it in cartoons. I think going back and editing old cartoons that depict it (as at the time, it was socially acceptable) is taking things too far. It's like denying parts of history happened.

I can't help but think that these Guitars sound quite tinny and lack a lot of warmth especially in low tones :/
@styx858 жыл бұрын
Keep in mind they've miked them differently than they use to. They've usually got microphones placed closer, pointing roughly at the 12th fret. I'm not saying they _don't_ lack warmth, but you might want to hear them in person before making your mind up about them.
@FoxyFox91868 жыл бұрын
***** You're right, but I just watched another video where they directly compared Epiphones to Gibsons with the mic at point blank range and I had the same tinny vibe listening to those Epiphones. I own a Gibson myself and I really do love how warm and mature they sound, that might bias me a little bit.
@bransonmifsud50197 жыл бұрын
Tonally they sound like a lot of old records from the 30's and 40's. It's a very particular style that isn't suitable for all genres.
@angellewis56857 жыл бұрын
I have an Epiphone Super Jumbo, and I find that a lot of the tinniness comes from the stock strings, and the stock action. My SJ-200 sounded super tinny for a long time, but then one day I decided to throw some elixirs on it and it just sang like never before. Most Epiphones are quite like this. Terrible stock strings and action. Put on some new strings that really bring out the guitar, and fix the fret buzz, and they're quite beautiful for the price. Obviously they're not $1000 guitars or more, but they're great once you take care of them.

+isawlindsey yup - same guitars! I guess we saw early prototypes at Namm as the ones that came through for sale 6-7 months later are actually really quite nice!
@isawlindsey8 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the quick response but that sounds like a retailers answer. I'm a big fan of your videos and watch most all the guitar reviews. But it'd be nice if Lee responded with a video. I'd be the first to acknowledge it's hard to tell the truth about items you're selling. A critical review once in awhile though would go a long way to insure one's credibility. Perhaps Lee's initial comments were closer to the truth. I'd have to hear these guitars in person to consider them for purchase. Maybe I'm asking too much.
@BicycleJoeTomasello7 жыл бұрын
Well I don't know what Lee's opinion is now but mine is these are fine guitars that cover a wide range of style's. I have the Olympic and the Deluxe, both with F holes, I can't say enough good things about them. I have owned my share of acoustic guitars, high end and off the rack.
