David Joranlien Serious question here; How did the sound difference strike you at first? Or is there much of one? I have had the first one the guy on the right played for a couple of years and love it especially for strumming hard, it just stays very even. When I jam with a guy playing a very old Gibson dread my Masterbilt sounds a bit tinny but when he strums his is too bottom heavy in the PA. I love the quality, it’s much better than the Gibson or my Alvarez’s. I’m wanting the Zenith and they aren’t on sale here in the USA

Amazing guitars, amazing guitarists Joss and Pete..you guys reminded me of my first guitar, a very cheap arch top, bought it for 2000 rupees (almost like $40) in 1999, at that time I didn't have any knowledge about the guitars nor there was any youtube to enlighten me, haha I remember brushing the strings behind the bridge when I didn't know a single chord. I just purchased a Epiphone AJ45S which differs from the AJ45ME in that the S model (Spruce i.e.) lacks the onboard pickup. I play Bluegrass so who needs a pickup. Also lower grade tuning machines. They are Wilkinsons. Love everything about this guitar (which in truth is a knockoff of Gibson's J45) cept the tuning machines. D string tuner slips outta tune between gigs. Plan is to upgrade to Grover or Weatherly top grade tuners. I saved enuff on the MSRP to justify the upgrade in tuners.

Well to be fair they're meant to sound different than flat-tops. You see, they're designed to have a mid heavy tone, which would help cut through a big band a little better which is the context in which this type of guitar was used, in a time before amps. That being said, I don't think these are very good acoustic archtops anyway. I've got an actually decent one and it doesn't have the cheap sound that these guitars have.
