This is a full build (every step!) of a Gibson L-00 style guitar. Handmade of scrap wood with a surprisingly good sound.
The materials is 2 oak floorboards (sides, back, neck and fingerboard) and a natural larch board for the top, bracing and kerfed linings.
I am freely following plans downloaded from www.grellier.fr with great thanks!
www.grellier.fr...
Guitar building is just a hobby. I am a professional educated guitarist and teacher, and i love the sound and feeling of this guitar.
I am also building an exact replika of this guitar, but with real tonewood (spruce and mahogany) bought at a lutherie supply.
You can hear the comparison here: • Scrapwood guitar Vs To...
The music is improvisations and some old danish folksongs played by me on this guitar.
Almost every special tool is homemade with great thanks to a lot of luthiers sharing knowledge on youtube and other sites.

So you’ve made an amazing guitar, out of scrap wood, you’ve played it really well, recorded it beautifully AND filmed and edited a video of the whole process 🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯 Super talented. 🔥🔥🔥🔥

First rate results I’d say and especially the tone. I agree with another that embarking on that effort with ‘scrap’ woods was a huge leap of faith that definitely paid off. I’ve made many guitars and I would have never had the nerve to follow your lead until now. It just goes to show that there’s more to it than the ‘best’ materials. Well done young man! And the soundtrack was as good as the result.

@@AndersWestfall thank you Anders! The fact that you hadn't made an electric guitar first makes it all the more impressive that you made this guitar so well. I like the "simplicity" of an acoustic guitar as well (even though it is certainly very difficult to build one) I'm looking forward to seeing the guitar you're building at the moment👍 Good luck

Amazing-Thank You. As far as the "scrap wood:" Bob Taylor once spoke that a first guitar build is about learning and the process mastered. You may have proved this true but the finish guitar is on a whole higher level when listening to the tone and your talented playing. I built the same guitar about 30 years ago and it is still my Favorite.

Wow - Although I have made many guitars, I have never had the courage to make a guitar from 'scrap' wood as the amount of work and the potential for failure has put me off. You have built a stunning instrument and your workmanship is something to be proud of. The sound is remarkable for those woods which really should not work. Lets hope your next one in real tonewood will be even better. Great work - keep it up - stay safe. - Dave

Very nice, the guitar looks stunning. Quick tip, usually the neck and tail block grain orientation follows the sides, to prevent cracks, in case the sides shrink with humidity changes, it's usually not a problem in controlled environments, but something to be aware of. I also gives you long gain for your dove tail joint, which is stronger than the short grain.

The results were probably just as you would have expected if not better. ( Just a hunch ) Hope you find the right quality tone woods for your next project. It would be nice to know the thicknesses of the sides, back and top of this guitar! That's because it sounds so good with a nice response in the higher tonal registers.
