Just stumbled on this posting and what a revelation! Muireann clearly has an intuitive feel for this old pre-war blues music. I discovered American country blues guitar music at the age of fifteen courtesy of John Pearse's UK TV series 'Hold Down a Chord'. He featured Mississippi John Hurt, Rev. Gary Davis, Big Bill Broonzy and Sam McGee. Now, at the age of 71 I still love to play the old country/delta blues music on acoustic guitar. It warms the cockles of this old heart to see that young people like Muireann are carrying the torch into the future for the old blues musicians who were tragically neglected in their own time.

I don't believe there's a safe, non-destructive, acoustic guitar technique (with the exception of slide work, which may be on a different video) that she didn't exhibit in this video. When I heard her open with "Candyman," it made me think of "Candyman Blues," by Mississippi John Hurt, and wonder if that was age-appropriate for young Muireann. 😄 It's lovely to hear the Irish lilt in her speech, but it's left out of her expressive, authentic phrasing singing. And we get a bonus - she's also a musicologist too!, informing us about the original artists and their experiences. Thanks to Muireann's dad for being such a good teacher and resource. A different guitar for each song, with their history, too! Thanks to AGM, and Muireann, for sharing the instruments, and your awesome skills, with the world. 🌍🌎🌠
