Acoustix, Tonight Tonight (better audio)

Finally, I have the video to go with the audio. This is my favorite piece from the Acoustix' CD "The New Science Of Sound". It is also an example of volume control. They push to the limits of their vocal range and volume without distortion or poor intonation. Many groups are pushing their voices to distortion, this group approaches maximum volume without over-singing.

I love the song, and the tag's a real ringer, but words can't describe how much I LOVE that last chord. It's so round and lush. It always makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up, The Acoustix are absolutley fantastic and this is definitley one of my favorite songs by them!!

Todd's father use to direct for my mom Sweet Adelines *( Harlen Wilson ) They use to be in West Palm Beach Fla. I was very very young and new all the numbers and all the songs and he wanted me to be in it. When I was about 8 or 9 The Acoustix sang Happy birthday to me... IT was AMAZING... I am now 28 yrs old and still LOVE Barbershop to this day... I would give anything in the world if my mom was here today to sing to me the Irish Lullaby... We will FOREVER miss you WONDERFUL voice...

I saw you guys perform this song (as Class of the 80's, I believe, in New Orleans), when I was in middle school. I cannot tell you how many times I listened to this track in particular on cassette over 20 years ago. So glad I was able to purchase it and keep it in my music collection.

I'm a former member of the Vocal Majority and performed in the concert during which this clip was recorded. My experience with live vs. studo recorded versions of the same song is that the studio version "usually" sounds better. While it's entirely possible that this clip has been dubbed, I can tell you without hesitation that the crowd went absolutely CRAZY when it ended.

@sephiroth3782 Yes, and you even got the note correct. When you are dead on, one person in a really acoustic area can create an audible overtone, and it sends a chill down your spine. Usually it's the tone that your skull resonates with. If you hit that note dead on in say a bathroom or stairwell, you can hear the OT for 1/4 second after you stop singing.

Because of the poor audio on this clip, you could not tell if the applause was worthy of the performance. So I added "Crowd cheering" from iMovie to simulate what you heard that night. The sound quality is always bad on those hand held video recorders especially if you are video taping more than 30 feet away. My effort was to give the viewer a more accurate presentation of what it would have sounded like if you were in the audience that night.

not sure sephiroth3782, but i thought the locking throughout was exceptional and especially the third quarter minor lift @ 0:51 really helped expressionise the minor tones of the fourth quartet cadence.

I should not have said horrible in terms of their performance, I meant horrible in due to the recording of the live performance. I think the recording was made on a cheep video camera using it's built in mic. You just can't get a good recording form a hand held video cam unless you know what you are doing.

Wonderful Harmony off course "Tonight" is from "West Side Story" NOT "Gypsy" perhaps that's why you cannot find the sheet music!

You think? Yeah I did because the live performance was HORRIBLE. By this time I think they had performed the piece to many times, or their voices were just exhausted and blown out. Anyway, I made it all better, sort of..LOL
