Musicians giving away their music for nothing is exactly why the industry is in shambles.
@Bons-on-Ice2 ай бұрын
@@hammill444 Putting free music out there is literally NOT why the industry is in shambles. No one wants to pay artists anymore. Tidal, Spotify, Pandora, et. al pay a fraction of a penny per listen. Only the biggest of the big artists make real money from streaming. All their earnings go to managers and promoters and everyone else involved in getting their name out there. Tickets are too expensive because of the promoters and venues while consumers are pinching pennies in an increasingly volatile economy. Going viral with a grassroots campaign is far more lucrative than launching a tour that won't sell (The Black Keys and so many others have folded tours this year!) Sure, the industry isn't what it used to be, but an artist driving traffic and profits directly to them is not the problem. The man got people in his stores and ordering online directly from his label. Jack hit with a stroke of genius with the release of "No Name." When he tours, he will have sell-out shows like he always does. I won't be there because the last JW concert I went to was an absolute nightmare and I'd rather listen in comfort from home than be harassed and shoved by a-hole bros who want to lick his sweat. Toodles.

Most jack white rebel behavior I ever seen I love it! Keep challenging the establishment fellas :)
@Bons-on-Ice2 ай бұрын
Well, my last comment magically vanished. I'm coming back to say that musicians deciding for themselves how to distribute their music is not why the industry is in shambles. It has more to do with promoters, corporate greed, a crowded market, and consumers pinching pennies. Plus, streamers are not paying artists enough per stream. Don't know why any of this was controversial enough to get my comment deleted?
@hammill4442 ай бұрын
@@Bons-on-Ice There indeed many factors involved. But make absolutely no mistake- the artists themselves bear responsibility as well. It wasn’t all just something that “happened” to musicians. They played- and continue to play- a significant part. One cannot on one hand complain about music being “devalued” and then be giving your work away for nothing on the other.
