They aren't slowing the game down. There's not even a pacing issue later in the episodes. Plus what's wrong with a little more showmanship? They just add a slightly different experience. It's a cool aesthetic that adds to an already great show.

@Dyrnwyn It provided an opportunity for comedy and spectacle, which is at least as important as story, battles, and skill checks for this kind of presentation. Sure, it would make more sense if the family carriage / undead dragon had stairs or something, but then how would we get spectral dragon poop jokes? The skeletal dragon boner joke I could have done without, though.

Im pretty sure its still 4th ed. But whatever the edition you will find that a lot of DMs will run some parts of the campaign a little more loosely to allow for some extra fluidity of play. :) its just a different style of play.
