I really know the fear you are describing! I couldn't even stand up and give a book report in school. I just could not do it. I was really shy. I kind of grew out of it... but not till after college. It was awful. This is so helpful. I'm so very much hoping I can be a male and a monk in my next life.I better get the shy thing out of the way first!!! Panic attacks are REALLY AWFUL.Thank you for this talk. I am positive it has benefited a whole lot of people. Many many blessings.

+Losel Boon Hong Chuah I first met Than V at Chithurst in 1980 as a 15 year old wide eyed youth determined to learn to meditate. His laid back manner both as a senior Bikkhu then as the Abbot for a short time before going to New Zeland, had a very profound effect upon me. He taught me to reflect and not to take life and myself too seriously. He always smiled and found humour in all he did or observed at this time. I never once saw him angry or sad.

It is improper for us laymen to refer these Venerables by Bhikkhu. We should call them Bhante.

If we recall, there was a time where we chose not to show vulnerability because it was not safe for survival. If family was not emotionally supportive, we repressed the fear and later manifests as anxiety and panic attacks. Fear then becomes an identification in form and we decide the sensations caused by thoughts, perception - Sankharas, then Papanca are real, that is Mara, and we fear we will die, or the body will die if we feel the fear, because to feel it means its real, but its the Kamma from thought, and the mind objectifies, the heart is repressed and ignored. This is why Metta practice is vital. Citta - being aware, the Buddha, is how to trust the Dhamma. Tanha, desire, clinging .... Dukkha, the four Noble Truths, we are experiencing Dukkha, there's a cause, there's a cessation, there's a way out - Noble 8 Fold Path. Sadhu!
