They say grow cabbage and Cauliflower according to if they are native to your area, whatever that means. lol I guess instead of a regular cabbage, you would plant a Chinese cabbage or some other type of cabbage instead of a regular cauliflower I’ve seen people grow pink cauliflower, and other varieties of cauliflowers But yes, I was told one can grow just about anything, but you have to make sure your area or your certain varieties grow better in certain zones and or weather conditions. That’s why I love the rare seeds companies so many varieties to choose from.

I learned that the darn slugs absolutely love corn meal ...if you sprinkle it along the edge of the bed, they will eat it and be happy and leave your crop alone. Meanwhile, in the early morning you can come out and collect them to throw into another location far far away. Snails like beer and also the corn meal . The corn meal method saved my seedlings when I learned they are ravenous after eating my first planting of Zinnias ...so when I re-planted, I used the corn meal...even the cheap Jiffy mix..... and have a successful garden now

For slugs, pour a can of beer in a pie tin. They come by the droves with their little antanea up and drink. It will get your "slug herd" under control! Be sure to watch in the evening as it is kind of amazing. is that contributing to the delinquency of a slug? ;)

The strawberry plants would do well in those in ground beds, and you could reuse that ground cover from the raised beds to keep the weeds out of them. I planted dahlia tubers (dinner plate) for the first time. I didn't realize just how large the plant grew. The stalks are approximately, 1" to 1 1/2", heavy and are a little more than 4 feet tall. We just had a storm lastnight and some of my dahlias are laying on the ground. Next year, i want to have a good variety and try from seed like Becky. But...I'll also stake them 😅🏵 I'm so inspired by Becky's gardens that I've been adding more and more each year. So looking forward to seeing what beauty awaits this summer and harvest will be amazing! Happy vibes and wishes for blessings to everyone watching.

Sluggo, or slug and bug killer is fine alone. The beer traps will attract slugs that never thought about going into your garden. You don’t want any attractants. Your garden is lovely.

You mentioned that your previous property was shadier which is probably why you had more success with cabbage and cauliflower in the summer. Brassicas do better in the fall anyway so maybe start some seeds for those and grow them through the fall and winter

Another idea that you can put around your plants is diatomaceous earth. Basically it cuts up the slugs and they don’t want to go through it and it’s natural you can put it on your animals for flea control. It has all sorts of uses and you get it at your local nursery

I've gotta chime in on the eggshell/slug thing!! One year I worked in a fresh pasta production facility. I took home hundreds of pounds of crushed eggshells to go on my garden. Literally. It was around 6 full sized totes FULL of eggshells. I still had the worst slug problem. I watched the slugs crawl right over the eggshells, unbothered lmao. It was a lot of effort for no benefit!

I’ve got so many slugs. I’ve tried beer, sluggo, copper tape… nothing has worked. I started planting thyme in my problem areas and that seems to be working well!! Also, I worked on a farm and the way we knew to harvest shishito peppers was to give them a squeeze. If they were firm, pick, if they were soft, leave it on until it was firm.

Loving the garden! Mine just consists of tomatoes this year because of renovations, but I had a surprise elephant garlic harvest on Monday thanks to a neighbor. Young bulbs, but quite a few corms, so maybe I'll try to start those and see if I can get to harvest them in 2026!

Sprinkling cheaper cinnamon in your flower and garden beds can help prevent a lot of pests such as ants, and even mice and many more! It smells good to us, but not to them! Same thing goes for Mint extract. You can mix that in a spray bottle with water to dilute and spray wherever with no worries about chemicals damaging your yard, garden or being unsafe for pets and kids.

Hi Becky! From memory your tarragon is Russian tarragon? If so then it's not your allergies, the tarragon is just not going to be very flavourful - switch it for the French tarragon next year, which has a much better flavour.

Hi Becky Sweet peas are incredibly thirsty plants, they love loads of water (even here in Ireland where it constantly rains) and they also require feeding. Sara ( Ireland)😊

Your garden and landscaping on your property is just so beautiful!! I would be thankful to have some fresh tomatoes. I miss my Mom's big garden. She was always harvesting and canning, freezing food. She always tried to have a few fresh tomatoes by July 4th. Today is my Mom's birthday. She would have been 98. She passed in 1990. I like how close your family is and love your videos. How old is your little one now? God is so good!

Don't give up on cabbage! Get some dill going around where you're going to plant the cabbage. It seemed to work for me this year. The smell turns off the bugs that light cabbage. And also do those other things that people told you to do.

Hi Becky, If you want to grow big healthy cabbage and cauliflower you need to give them an extra feeding. They also like a more sandy soil. I hope you give it a try. Don't give up, your beds are still new and getting established, try a few different varieties and see which ones like your beds. Hope this helps. Much love to you

Organic permanent way to get rid of slugs. Remember the old fashion bottle brushes made with heavy wire and heavy plastic string-like reeds cut short to make the scrubby part of your bottle brush? You can buy both raw materials at any hardware store. You are going to need work bench, clamp, and a drill. Put 2 long strands of heavy gage wire in clamp on one end. Separate wires to lay 4" to 6" plastic strands between wire gage. Use drill on opposite end of heavey wire gage to clamp together the heavy wires closed together. Then turn on drill slowly holding wire taught so plastic strips don't fall out. I do it in 4ft sections because that's manageable for me. Longer tends to have plastic strings falk out. After twisting and twisting with drill you will have 4ft long bottle brushes. I fold the heavy gage wire back on itself with wrench to finish off ends to it stays closed. Take those "bottle brush" pieces and use heavy wood staples to staples the brushes under the outside and top side of each bed. So each bed has a solid surround of bottle brushes on the outside and topside of every bed. Slugs are incapable of climbing over pointy sharp bottle brush barrier. Hence, no poison, gaged wire that's been coated with plastic will not rust and plastic wire lasts like this for over a decade and you will never see a slug of snail again, unless your soil was infested with snail embryos prior to planting. In other words, toss your snail and slugs out and you will never see then again. Each bed will look like they have fuzzy collars but you will never have your plants eaten again.

If you plant it densely enough with flowers they will smother out weeds. If you put landscape fabric down you’ll prevent reseeding. I totally get trying to decrease work for yourself but I’d give that more consideration. Love your garden ❤
