An 83 day, 1700 kilometre canoe expedition across the seldom explored Labrador wild. Presented as a docuseries. This is episode #2. There will be a minimum of 6 episodes.
Click 'show more' for additional information 👇
At 1.4 million km², the Labrador Peninsula is one of the last great wilderness areas on the planet. In 2018 I set a goal to cross its width by canoe.
From the Labrador Sea to Hudson Bay it was an estimated 1700 kilometre journey that would last 83 days.
With only my dog Saku, I would travel, up and down remote rivers, across enormous lakes, and over portages that were littered with both beauty and danger.
We would witness and camp in wilderness that few, if any, have ever seen and rewind back to a time when life was simpler.
Along the way I filmed our experiences. Now, in a docuseries format, we bring it to life for you, right here on KZbin.
Don't forget to subscribe and hit the bell for notifications so you don't miss any of the action and please tell your outdoor loving friends. Thanks for watching!

Just wow. When you realize on day 10 that the going is a lot harder and slower that you had planned on and .... you just keep on going.... few modern men would have the fortitude and inner strength.... cannot express my gratefulness at being able to observe your explorations.... legendary stuff... and unique content... your production quality and scene selection and management and music all blend together for a superb experience.....so well done... thank-you

I am watching this wilderness adventure with great admiration. It’s not just the physical strain of the portaging but the mental alertness required. I hope people realize how hard it is to do what you are doing. If this trip were a collage course it would be in a advanced doctorate program.

Thanks again. Your adventures remind me of my first experience in the real wilderness. I took a 30 day Outward Bound course north of Thunder Bay in the middle of October..One component of this course was to be dropped off for 3 days on a tiny island with a sleeping bag, a plastic sheet for shelter and 2 cups of trail mix. They called it the Solo. The only time in my 62 years when I was really and truly alone. I also learned that when one feels completely exhausted and shattered, you actually still have amazing reserves of strength and can paddle on for hours. You already know this of course.

I’ve done many a river trip, but none having to run/portage upstream all the way! The scenery and waterways is very similar to parts of the Yukon and northern B.C. (without the mountains). Burn areas are great for firewood, and often mushrooms shortly after. I admire your determination and resilience. This is the way of our forefathers, and our land would never had been explored and conquered without certain people determined to take ‘the hard way’. Beautifully shot, and edited. I know using a lapel or shotgun mic is out of the question, so subtitles and such are perfect. Kudos to you and Saku.

Quick recap of video starting at time 11:11 ending at 12:15: Justin: "What do you think Saku?" Saku: "Uhhh yeah, sure. Does my reaction not explain it all to you??" Justin: "Come on buddy, hold on." Saku: *Looks ahead of the canoe and sniffs the air* Justin: "Trying not to take any water on here." Saku: "Uhhh yeah, that is a great idea since I am stuck in this." ... "Where can I jump out at before you tip this thing over and kill me?" *Looks at the shoreline* Justin: "Stay Sak." Saku: "I am how about you hurry up." Justin: "Good job buddy, Saku: *licks his mouth* "Yep, awesome, feed me now, I'm hungry. Foood! ... What, no doggy biscuit for a good job?"

One problem of supporting an Explorer on KZbin is that they keep going off exploring! But you really make it worthwhile. Great episode, well worth the wait. So much suspense waiting to see if that rope snaps and then you're hooped!!!

Again awesome work Justin.!!You are the real deal. I follow a long list of channels just as yours. But it blows my mind why more people are not subscribed to this First class act, your chanel. Your right up their with Robinet , Shawn James and the rest of the tribe here on KZbin. Looking forward to your next segment. Thank you for all the hard work you do and for sharing it, for our entertainment, and yes it is a labor of love.

Fantastic content; the hour flew by! A wholly Canadian atmosphere. This is the most enjoyment I've had from a KZbin Canoe tripping series. I hope the slog transitioned into a ride at some point in this trip. Thanks for the ride along!
