Short natural acrylic nails for beginners tutorial. In this nail video tutorial The Meticulous Manicurist, Lori Halloway, shows us how to apply short acrylic nails to prevent bitten nails. It is harder to apply acrylic on short nails than it is on longer nails because you do not have as much space to work with. You will need to be careful when you pick up your liquid monomer and not get too much in your brush. If you have too much liquid monomer in your brush you will pick up too big of a bead of acrylic powder. You want to make sure the liquid to powder ratio is correct for the small area for the acrylic nail. Many clients wear acrylic nails so they don't bite their own nails. And believe it or not people need to have functional short nails so they can operate in their life.

I actually really like how you done 1 hand in normal time so we can see properly how you do things and in detail, then the 2nd hand speed up so you still get to see what you doing and how you're doing it without making the video too long. me personally I love long detailed videos so I'm a fan either way :)

I don’t think I have ever had a nail tech take as much time and do as good of a job as you do. Why can’t you be close to me, I would def come to your salon. Its evident that you take pride in your work. Most places I’ve been lately seem to just rush through. Love your channel!💕

I have watched your pedicure videos for a couple of years, but this video helped me the most. I have a fingernail that has a permanent vertical split. In the last few years that particular nail has become very thin, and I have tried gel nails and nail wraps to keep it from breaking too far down, but the maintenance at a salon is cost prohibitive for me. I watched your videos and have learned (with LOTS of practice) how to properly apply a thin, even, functional layer of acrylic on my split nail so that it isn't constantly breaking. Thank you so much for the help!

Do you have a video showing someone who gets acrylic nails put on for the first time? I'd be interested in the entire process of selecting the size of nail to put on, how the natural nail is prepared to receive the acrylic, etc. If you don't already have one, would you consider doing that type of video? Thanks

Can you please address a debate on dip powders: is it unsanitary to dip clients into the main dip containers as most seem to do? I’m just getting into practicing dips and pour my product into 2oz solo cups that get tossed after each client (OPI specifically instructs on doing this with their product to avoid cross contamination) but end up tossing a good amount of product Thank you!

I have never had nice natural nails. have a product called LCN on my nails. I’m not sure if you are familiar with it, but before application, it has a gooey appearance like a mix between Gel and resin. I can’t wear acrylic nails any more because I have gotten a reaction in the past. LCN looks great and I get a ton of compliments, but it’s expensive. Should I get the LCN taken off, let my nails “breathe” and try again with acrylic after a couple months?

The salon I used to go to would twist your hand around like your nails would be pointing up toward the ceiling and facing them to get the shape. It never worked. I don't know why it was so hard to get it across that what I wanted was kind of a round square. You don't want a sharp edged square right? Down here in, Atl. Ga all we have are Vietnamese or Asian girls who speaka no engliss. They all have American names like Suzie and Mary. lol I guess tho for the most part they did a pretty thorough job, massage and all. offered all kinds of applications, gel, acrylic etc. I would have loved to have some communication. I have noticed how you do not use any nail dehydrator before applying the primer. Is that just your preference? Wouldn't the dehydrator help your client with lifting along with the primer.
@meticulousmanicurist
@meticulousmanicurist 7 жыл бұрын
+Karen Alfaro I have never noticed a difference when using a dehydrator. My clients have a little lifting but would have the same amount if I added it. So it is just my preference to not use it. I think double priming probably takes the place of the dehydrator.

Is it true that acrylic weakens the nails if applied to often.
@meticulousmanicurist
@meticulousmanicurist 7 жыл бұрын
No, the acrylic sitting on top of the nail plate does not change the strength of the nail at all. It is the filing of the nail plate before the application that can be damaging. I see many people using an electric drill to file the natural nail and that should never be done. Where I live it is actually against the law but people still do it. You should never use a drill bit around the cuticles either. Always use a cuticle pusher and hand file any adhered skin from the nail plate.
@TheTara1997
@TheTara1997 7 жыл бұрын
The Meticulous Manicurist Nail Tutorials, in Buffalo the nail shops always use a drill to file my cuticles off. They also have you put your nail up to the light after the acrylic is filled. It's hot and painful. I finally took off my acrylics. It was also so unsanitary. The bits never got cleaned between clients. Those places are always busy. Should I call a health inspector or something?

All of your vids are basically overlays. Can you do some with building a proper sculptured nail with forms? Preferably pink and white or any two toned colors with clean smile lines. I'd like to see some different nail shapes like ballerina/coffin. Also, can you identify where you're focusing the strength of your application, especially when sculpturing nails thin? I'd love to be able to have sculptured glitter nails w no clear cap like that. I just can't seem to keep them that thin and strong. Thx!

+indy1932 I use OPI polish. Acrylic is not what damages the nail. It is a technician that files the nail incorrectly or someone pulling the acrylic off the nail, tearing layers of the nail. Most of my nail clients are professional women who keep their nails short :)

Why wasn't the drill used to blend the acrylic with the nail and only the nail file? Is this a technique used to keep from making the nails too weak?

I thought you had to get ALL the old clouded lifted acrylic off before you applied new acrylic. Won't you trap moisture under the lifted acrylic when you apply new acrylic and end up causing " green nail" ?? Also because you've not taken off all the lifted bits, when you're applying new acrylic, are you not creating pocket bubbles, therefore weakness because the acrylic is not actually stuck to the nail? I would be worried :/

Did you not watch the beginning of the video where I nip off the lifted acrylic? If there is an air bubble in the center of the nail with sealed edges all the way around it and not close to the edge where it is in danger of lifting, then no you do not have to remove it. You do have to remove any lifted areas around the cuticle, side walls or free edge. People are hard on their nails and sometimes get an air bubble from twisting or pulling on their nail, but until it becomes a problem, like getting close to the edge so maybe before their next appointment it could lift, you don't have to worry about it. You can't make every nail perfect all the time, you will spend too much time. If you have one client after the other you will be behind all day.

Hola, What grit is your nail file and is it better to use the curved file vs. the straight file? Gracias!

I dislike the file I used in this video. I prefer the 150 grit you can see in my newer acrylic videos. I do sell them in my online store. www.voila-salon-spa.com/OnlineStore/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=3_77

My concern is, that acrilic got dark, why keep it and not chane for fresh one.

As long as acrylic nails are cared for properly they should never turn dark. You should never have to takeoff and put on new acrylic unless it is lifted.
