It would actually have been better with a lot darker background containing some red - the complimentary contrast to green. That would pull out the avocado much more, since the eye would not try to find a place to focus.

Hi Anne, A complementary color scheme is a choice I could have made. In this case, this is nearly an analogous color scheme.

When painting, do you prefer to use oil or acrylic paint? And are there instances where you would decide to use one instead of the other? If you like to use a different kind of paint, which paint? (Everyone feel free to answer)

If i know im just doing a quick painting in one day i use acrylics and if i know itll take me longer, i still normally start with an acrylic underpainting and the paint oils over if i wish. For all portrait i used oils and stuff like still life it really depends on the complexity of the object. The more complex, the more likely i'll used oil because of that longer drying time which gives you time for edit and work on each section. Also for more expressionistic works i prefer acrylics as its less likely to muddy up plus acrylic paint is cheaper so i wont feel guilty applying heavy amounts of it:) hope that answers your question!
