I love dollar store acrylics! They are the only acrylic paint I've used so I don't really know what I'm missing, haha. I definitely want to try some more expensive paint once I practice some more with my dollar store brand :) They are also really great for crafting, too!

Yeah I feel you on the dollar store craft paint, it used to be like "the shit" when I was starting off painting in highschool. I think it the consistency of those paints is really nice compared to the semi intimidating high pigment acrylics. If you want the more expensive brands to mimic the dollar store ones then I have some tips- ------------------------Add a little bit of white to every color mixture (this is why the cheap acrylics cant get certain tones) so that the paint isn't just a pure semi translucent pigment. --- Add a lot of water to the mixture, the soupy consistency of the cheap colors is cause its watered down so adding it early on in the actual paint mix will prevent globs of paint. -- Lastly, get jars to put color mixes into, so you can save colors and dont have to remix them. Also Golden acrylics has a line of acrylics that are called "fluid acrylics" which are much more liquidy than usual acrylics and are still incredibly pigmented so I also think trying those might help.

I just started oil painting this year and there is a big learning curve, so I can relate to your struggles, but things get easier with time and practice. I have found that when you do oil on wood or paper it turns out much more matte than on canvas, and also thinning it helps with the drying time. This means that it will be less opaque, but it allows you to build up several thin layers rather than one or two thick ones. Oils generally have more pigment, too, so they are easier to mix with less colors. I'm an "oil girl", but whatever works for you is what works for you. My art style is also pretty different from yours, so some of the things I like about oils might be bad for your art. Whatever the materials, the outcome is beautiful, so keep doing what you're doing.

I recently did a painting for my art minor at uni where I did the base in acrylic and the final layer in water-soluble oils. I discovered that while the faster drying time of the acrylics is very convenient, I enjoyed working with the oils more. It was much easier to get clean lines and fine details with them, and to blend them as well.

I saw you painting the first pink flower and 2 more flowers , it was my first time watching you. I saw it Live by clicking the TwitchTv link you provided :) Must say I was glued 😊 🙌 I really like seeing people do art work :) Loved all the little moments in between , the singing and humming ( to get focussed , like we all do ) , the itching ( totally normal ) , the placing of the thin paper on the face of girl in the portrait , so that it does not get ruined ( I was also worried about your hand directly touching her face :P , even I didn't want to see her face get inked etc :P ) Hope to see more of such fun videos in 2017 :) Happy New Year and Merry Christmas to all , in advance :) May this year bring happiness and peace in the lives of all of us 🙌 😄 😊 💗

You probably couldn't mix brown because of the pigment load in the cheaper acrylics. Love cheap acrylics but if you want to mix your colors instead of buying them you probably would do better to go with Liquitex or Golden and start with a Split primary. There's a channel called The Art Sherpa and her color chart video suggests the following acrylic colors. HTH Phthalocyanine Blue (green shade) Ultramarine blue Dioxazine Purple Cadmium Yellow, Medium Shade (hue is ok) Yellow Ocher Cadmium Red, Medium Shade (hue is ok) Quinacridone Magenta - optional Naphthol Crimson Burnt Sienna Mars Black Titanium White Zinc White or Mixing White

I've had problems mixing orange with my cheap acrylics, too. But turned it turned out I was just using the wrong red. To make a vibrant orange, I mixed a bit of cadmium red with yellow. I first tried crimson red with yellow and it made a muddy orange.

Nice work! One thing that could help you with color mixing could be making a color wheel. I know it is boring, and you have a good acrylic knowledge already, but it really does teach and refresh color mixing habits. For the brown you were trying to go for... (not sure if the paints were a factor but...), your were on the right track. I think it could have maybe used more red, and some black to richen the dark tone your may have been going for.

If the pencil is smudging on the canvas when you get your paint close to it you should try applying a layer of clear gesso on it before painting to create a barrier between your pencil lines and your paint so you won't have to worry about it getting into your colors.

Amazing! I have a question, should i get copics or a diffren't kind of marker because I'm somewhat new at art xD ILYSM
@KekeShawnArt8 жыл бұрын
Diva Holly MSP I'm not her but I would recommend checking out cheap marker reviews. The newest cheap alcohol markers I've seen that has reviews are art-n-fly. Even though they aren't copies, they are good for beginners who don't know if they are actually going to commit to the medium. No reason to spend 400 dollars on something that you might not like.
@atlas65098 жыл бұрын
Diva Holly MSP Well,Unless You're Like Really Rich,Than You Should Start With Something A Bit Cheaper,Like, Brush Markers/Pro Markers From Winsor And Newton,Or Prismacolor Priemer (I Think That's How You Spell It) Markers Or Anything That You Can Find That You Like.
@thatgirldancer92738 жыл бұрын

Copic markers are amazing quality, at a higher price. If you're going to accumulate a lot of copics all up front then go for it, but from my personal experience I tried only buying 4 copics at a time, and by the time I went in for the next set of four I had almost used up the ink in the markers I did have (as you use what you have, and if you have less colors/markers to choose from, then you use the few copics you do have). A great alternative (at half the cost per marker) are "Promarkers", and Michaels has their own brand of marker called "#coloring" which come in packs of five, and are very juicy and pigmented. Bales has a copic marker alternative video as well, hope I could help ya!
@chocolatewasted64988 жыл бұрын
Diva Holly MSP I recommend the Touch brand or Art n fly because they're both very cheap and deliver good quality for the price.Unless of course you have a lot of money to throw around on markets (as for each copic marker can cost 6-9$) then I would recommend copics .

You have to mix orange and blue, yet since the second color is more dominant. Then you need to saturate the color with bit of white, or more orange color to add.
