Acrylic painting techniques for floral abstract art

I recently visited the botanical gardens which had a hot house full of cacti, orchids and other exotic plants.
This painting is inspired by that visit.
Ive included all processes and sequence of steps so you can follow along.
I use techniques including a limited palette, creating texture, layering and negative painting.
I used acrylic paper 16x20 inch. I used gesso, sgraffito tools, various paintbrushes. Titanium white, indigo, cadmium red deep and lemon yellow acrylic paints.
And a pencil!!

Mary, I’m so sorry for the late reply!!! This is brilliant to hear. I try to keep true to myself on YT…like be intuitive, not what you think you should do. It is hard though because once you’ve invested your time and supplies it feels like you can’t ruin it!!! I’m really pleased you noticed too as sometimes it makes the video less watchable as it gets chaotic and repeatable a bit. Your comments mean a lot to me, they’re very helpful…and kind 😂😁🥰

Morning👋🏻 I’m looking forward to your videos, it’ll be interesting and likely way more professional than mine!!!!! I like this style, it’s a bit full on for a YT video, but doing these ones helps you make more strategic videos where you focus on a certain process, style etc. these big ones take so much work that it’s a big tick in the learning for less in depth videos. Hi dear Kirsten, it´s wonderful to see how you manage your way through texture, color, form. Although I cannot follow or learn this from you because it seems to be entirely your process, I am excited to see your progress. And I am impressed to see, how you very often seem to know, what you are doing. (I am very far from that, when I am painting 🤣😂) . I am a bit puzzled though by white as a background to darker colors. Didn´t I hear you say, that darker colors step back and lighter colors step forward? Perhaps I would have liked to look a bit longer at the finished painting before you blended in your chanal information. Perhaps I could have sorted out my problem better that way. And yes: It is a never ending process of learning, watching, doing, experimenting. And I wish you lots of curiosity and longing and joy while following your way of art. Love you 🥰, Britta

Dear Britta, I know I’m replying late to your comment but i get a bit behind 😖. I’m a bit puzzled by colour theory still Britta, I have a friend who is an artist and he explained the colours in this picture are all cool (although relative to each other they’re different temperatures), but overall it’s a cool palette. So I’m changing my colours a bit to be warmer overall. I do think it may be easier to make decisions with these too. We shall see…it’s a rocky winding road this colour theory 😖🤯🤣❤️
