Nailed it with skill. And why the trade is drastically underpaying technicians especially where most techs pay for their own tools, and depending upon what all you actually work on, you can spend tens of thousands of dollars to be able to do your job.

If you find a capacitor going bad within a month or two, you could have a compressor going bad. I’ve had several in the last 20 years that had failed compressors a couple months later. Good luck trying to get distributors to bring in US made capacitors. Everyone’s all about “go USA”, until it comes to paying twice as much or getting stocked at the supply house.

@Craig. The original evaporator was replaced on my 2017 TRANE XR 5K system on 3 August 2023. On 4 May 2024 an HVAC tech from the installing company came out to diagnose why system was not cooling. $150 later it turns out there is no refrigerant in the system, then quotes me $888 to only conduct a leak check? A total ~$3000 for complete the job? It’s been 90 deg in the house. Thank you very much for your books and videos; I am well on my way to becoming an HVAC technician. It turns out one of the lines from the TXV is leaking at the joint it enters one of new evaporator coil tube (possibly manufacturing defect). Its aluminum if needs be how can this be repaired in the field?

I am using Honeywell thermostat for my new Trane heat pump a/c system. When I choose Off mode in thermostat then I can see room temperature rising from 77 F to higher like 78, 79 and so on. I choose Cool mode to run AC and set temperature to 77 F while room temperature is 78, 79 or 80 F. System starts to run AC. I expect to see room temperature drop from 80 to 77, or 76 so that system can stop. Room temperature drops to 77 and system stops. However I do not see room temperature rise above set temperature 77 F, but system starts to run and from now on I see no change in room temperature. It is 77 F and system runs and stops in a cycle with no change in reading room temperature from thermostat. The run and stop cycle is is every 5 minutes. I watch over the run and stop cycle for no heat pump a/c system, the cycle is at least 25 minutes and the thermostat show the rise and drop of room temperature like: set temperature to 77 F. When room temperature rises to 78 or 79, system runs cooling. When room temperature drops to 77 or 76 F, system stops. 25 minutes later room temperature rises to 78 or 79, system runs. The cycle will repeat. Can you help to give me instructions about what is wrong with my new system. The previous system on my house of 1630 square feet is 3 tons heat pump a/c. This time the contractor places new 4 tons Trane heat pump a/c.

If you set it to 77 and it stays there it’s doing its job. It is supposed to cycle on and off, how else would it keep it cooled to that temperature?

I was taught that silver solder and brazing is the same thing in plumbing. Both do not use flux where as soft solder uses flux.
@3beltwesty
@3beltwesty Жыл бұрын
Technically Brazing is above 840F and Soldering is below 840F.
@tooterplumber1128
@tooterplumber1128 Жыл бұрын
@@3beltwesty yes you are correct. But before lead free solder became code, soft solder was 50/50 which was in roll form and silver solder was in stick form. Therefore silver solder and brazing were the same because it Tooks both of them to get above 840° to be used.

Done right, stay-brite 8 is excellent for Air conditioning, especially in any normal residential setting. I'm kind of surprised anyone uses anything else for that application, it's so user friendly.

Hello, I have a Trane air handler model TEM6A0C42H41SB TXV 3 ton with 14 subcooling listed in the manual. The outside Trane compressor 3.5 ton model 4TTR6042J1000A. On the plate is says 8 Subcooling. Can you please tell me witch subcooling to use. I was thinking 11 is within 3 degree less than 14 and withing 3 degree higher than 8.
@USA-GreedyMenOfNoIntegrity
@USA-GreedyMenOfNoIntegrity Жыл бұрын
The installation instructions list two outdoor units. Neither one is the one you’re using. So follow the instructions and use the outdoor unit dataplate which is 8° subcooling.

I have never heard anyone using soft solder for Air Conditioning. Soft solder is for plumbing and such. Silver solder or silver braising for AC and other such higher pressure systems. Then you spoke about braising. I wasn't too impressed with that whole conversation.
