There's something so touching about the fact that Mushari is included in the choir at the opening of this act, and that he ends the play cradling one of the babies. It's probably just for convenient blocking, but it makes me think that even the seediest, smarmiest character is worthy of sympathy/compassion- which I suppose fits Eliot Rosewater's message. Also, "A Firestorm Consuming Indianapolis" gives me major chills. It seems to be the only moment in the play that we get a sense of Rosewater's true motivation behind his charitable persona. That's the moment the whole story clicked for me.

I don't think Eliot is insane, I think that accident in the war scarred him and he never got over it.

I agree. I think that the guilt he feels over what happened is driving his actions. He’s overcompensating for having killed innocents in the war, by helping out as many innocent people as he possibly can. (There’s a little more to it than that with how the class differences and privilege come into play, but that’s the gist of it imo.)

That song in particular would make a good animatic. Eliot gets his ticket and he looks out the window and describes the land and then it transitions to his ancestors then to him as a soldier. After learning his victims were innocent he's crying and it transitions back to the bus and as his PTSD starts to overpower his psyche he imagines the city burning. Then just as he says stop the bus it's outside the mental hospital and he admits himself.

I doubt we'll get a movie adaptation. The last adaptation of Vonnegut's work was so bad they didn't release it. But, I could honestly see them doing maybe like a series about the Rosewater's. It chronicles the life of Eliot from his mother's untimely death to the war and it could skip forward to the events of the musical.

Caroline and Fred are not worthy of the Rosewater inheritance. I read the original book and both are neglectful of each other. Also, Fred is a suicidal life insurance salesman. Eliot is the only one who deserves to keep the money. If I were doing a film adaptation I would rewrite the ending just to ensure Eliot keeps his inheritance and Mushari gets arrested.

But doesn't the current ending ensure that the Rosewater money will not go to Caroline and Fred, but to all of Eliot's "adopted" children?
