I sold and used those Aqua-Tainers for years, and they work great. Plus, you can get extra parts for them. I've also found whatever lamps and light sources make sure to change them out to LED bulbs. So they do not pull so much voltage when it comes time to use your generators, batteries, etc. Anyway to make your power last as long as possible. Goodluck and God Bless.

When I lost the power during hurricane Milton I use motion lights inside and put them around the house every time I would move in the area the light will come on. I also have flashlights and I have a battery backup to charge up my phone. An echo flo to run a fan. Small canisters of propane to fire up a small camping cook stove to cook on. I was okay when I lost my power just a few weeks ago. I also have a generator and hooked up my chest freezer and refrigerator freezer. I have gas stored up.

Prepper tip: take one of those water containers and put it in your freezer chest so if you lose power, you have a giant block of ice in there to help keep things colder longer. Leave room in the container so when the water freezes it doesn't split the container open.

I suffer from lung diseases so have little energy. And little money! All we can do is prepare the best we can. If I could spend big bucks on anything, it would be a whole-house generator, but that is not possible for me. So while I know I'll lose a lot of food in my freezer during a sustained outage, I can still purchase canned goods and shelf-stable items. We can only do what we can do, and any little thing we do will probably make us more prepared than most. One great thing you might consider is finding some neighbors to band together and look out for each other in the case of problems. God bless you, Laura.

A word on Baofeng radios. They don’t do CB. The UV5R model you showed is a dual band UHF,VHF analog radio. It needs to be programmed and you can listen all you want to your programmed frequencies. To TRANSMIT you must be licensed by the FCC. To those who say well you can use them in a disaster without a license. Two things to consider. One, disaster to the FCC is all other normal communications are non functional. Two, a disaster is a real bad time to jump on the air with no understanding of basic radio communications and learn on the fly. Get your license so you can practice before SHTF and be proficient. In the circumstances outlined in the video GMRS would be much better. You don’t need a license unless you’re exceeding 2 watts on GMRS and/or on a GMRS repeater. The license covers the entire family and is 35.00 for 10 years. No study required but please watch a KZbin video or two about proper usage. You will need to learn how to program local GMRS repeaters.

You are very general when you say the first 400 dollars. Needs are different in a hot climate and in a cold climate. I like using galvanized trash cans for my dried goods such as beans, pasta, rice. Keeps rodents and other critters from biting through plastic or carton containers. Also serve as dual purpose like a faraday cage for your radios and batteries in case of emp or cmp events. In the winter sleeping bags are key to keeping warm during power outages. If you have power banks 12V blankets between wool blankets will keep warm. Wool blankets in my opinion are ideal as they wick moisture, have antibacterial properties that won't breed bacteria or mold, it rarely needs to be washed, properties that won't attract mites, it is fire resistant, you can wrap yourself in a wool blanket in an open campfire and don't have to worry about a spark from an amber burning it, like other blankets. Even when wet it retains 80% of it capacity to keep you warm.

I’m looking for the rechargeable cooler. I know you recommended one in the past. We were lucky with Milton. We only lost power for a little over 24 hours, and we have a generator. We’re looking at a home improvement project in December where we will have to turn the electric off with no generator for a couple days, and will need to keep my son’s insulin cold.

grab yourself an extremely thick styrofoam cooler the kind they ship steaks in. Freeze a couple gallon jugs of water. The very thick styrofoam cooler will keep things cold for several days with no problem and no power usage. You can also drink the water in The jug as it melts.

Yes. I bought two. You can use the basic channels ie walkie channels anytime but ham channels no. Big fines. You can look up ham license. They have a course for like 20.00. And then you test locally another 25.00 I believe. Then you get the call letters and can call throughout the states etc. it has emergency channels you can listen to and the walkie channels you can use no license needed. I gave my adult kids a walkie so if it breaks out they can call me on that. Both ham and walkies are over the air. Require no internet

@robertmill7755
@robertmill7755 23 күн бұрын
YES!!!! An amateur radio license is required to TRANSMIT on ham bands. You also need to study for the exam and pay 35.00 to the FCC,(used to be free). Consider GMRS as an alternative especially if you’re just keeping in touch over a few miles. To use GMRS repeaters you need a GMRS license. Again pay 35.00 to the FCC, BUT!! No studying for a test. Your range will greatly increase depending on the repeater and the license is good for a family.

I love my LifeStraw Family 1.0 Portable Gravity Powered Water Purifier for Emergency Preparedness and Camping. The price varies from $50-$85 depending on where you buy it and if it's on sale. It purifies up to 4755 gallons to 0.02 microns which will filter out all bacterial and viruses. Keep an eye out for black friday sales. I purchased 4 of these for $50 each on the lifestraw website a few months ago when it was on sale.

Except the Mini is about 1/3 the price. It's slower, particularly if you're using it with gravity, and it needs flushed more often if the water's dirty, but it's still a good choice for someone with a limited budget.
