It’s kinda funny when you think about it, when the concept of acting was first introduced, it was low class entertaining high class, now it’s high class entertaining low and middle class
@007Hutchings14 сағат бұрын
High paying and High Class are two completely different things. At one time both were synonymous but now not so much not that there is anything wrong with that. But you are right it is bizarre to think that the wealthiest of people entertain the plebeians 😂

Because its easier to extract money from millions of poor people than it is to dozens of wealthy people.

Even worse is that if you DO get the acting gig, you then have to worry how said roles will affect your career going forward. Like, everyone discounts you for having only tiny/background or independent film roles on your resume, and so you have to fight that as well in order to be cast in major roles. (See the comments section for every movie with an "unknown" actor in the lead role.)

Its like that for almost any arts job. Thats why so many CEOs have children with "Indie" bands

it's one thing that makes me sad having tried to make it and did well up to pre-uni level but the costs [and in my case the lack of interest in performing arts outside of small circles where i live] i accepted that i could not continue on. it's a saddening reality and i wish it wasn't the case for so many worldwide
@Ar1AnX1x15 сағат бұрын
the sad thing is, overall, making money is completely pay to win, the more you need money the harder it is for you to make it, and the more you're well off, the easier making a lot of money is for you
@RawBerserker15 сағат бұрын
What you said about the audition being 2 days away applies to me as camera crew too. It's damn near impossible to find a job that's fine with you saying "Oh, I've got a call for a week of shooting starting tomorrow, I can't come in" when you're starting out and don't have much work coming your way. You definitely need support, and the people having a rich family or especially those with nepotism sees so many crew members like me starting from scratch not be able to sustain themselves. The whole industry is just messed up unfortunately.

Being the son or daughter of someone wealthy usually guarantees an easy life. If I was the son of some billionaire then I could easily pursue my creative dreams which are 7 or 8 figures in cost... but it's otherwise impossible unless I win a big lottery

Same thing for studying topics that dont bring money. Friend of mine went to university for Scandinavian studies, her parents paid for her knowingly that she wont find a job even when she rocked it with an excellent grade. Thats someting u can only afford with wealthy parents.

That is becoming the staple in a lot of occupations. Its not about what you know but who you know. Like I got my degree in environmental engineering and I see all these projects going on that I should go into. Is there a job offer? No but I can volunteer. Cool I'll do that but how do I afford rent and put food in my belly? So I'm doing a 9-5 office job that has nothing to do with what my degree was in. And I only got that job because I knew guy.

Someone invited me to take part of a subscription that helps me take part of local acting gigs and varies on amount and time in taking part in each project. I wish I can sign up for it right away, but they are asking a hundred or so dollars a year and a professional head shot and portrait of one's self applying for each project. Those photos are at least $300 to $500, total to get those photos on my own.

Its the same across the entire creative sphere: most day to day artists arent from common backgrounds, because you need money to be able to afford the dodgy pay, to afford the education, and to have the connections if you want to even think about going big

To a small extent there is a similar problem with wanting to become a content creator. In order to succeed you need to not only put out content but put out content at a certain frequency. Depending on what type of content you're making this is virtually impossible if you work a full time job unless you're willing to completely sacrifice having a social life of any kind. IE I'm not good at live content. I'm at my best when I script my videos and record gameplay I need in advance.

I disagree with josh about the point of the education+life style. If you dont have money for proper training, go to local amateur theater and affordable courses. If you dont want to face the reality of being an actor, the struggle of getting jobs, the hardship of training then acting is not for you and i say that as a professional artist. If you cant afford even the cheapest courses on art, dont have time for training and practice, don’t go after entry lvl work and is not willing to face the reality of life as an artist, art is not for you my dude.
