@@JoeKyser 3 of those are warships, I said *ocean liners* One of those is *like* an Ocean Liner but is a yacht used by the monarchy, so it doesn't really count, of course it was saved because of it's connection to the royal family! The S.S. Nomadic is a tender ship for an ocean liner, not an ocean liner. Thank goodness she is still around today, but to be real she was only saved for her Titanic connection. If she didn't she would have long since been scrapped, or still rotting in France. SS Great Britain is the ONLY one I can say counts, it is an Ocean Liner, they saved it, they picked it off the bottom of the sea to restore it and it is a great museum ship today. But all their other ocean liners; Olympic, Mauretania, Mauretania 2, Majestic, Aquitania, MV Georgic, MV Britannic, Berengaria. All were scrapped. The Queen Mary was sold to the United States, The Queen Elizabeth was sold to Hong Kong where she caught fire and sank. The QE2 is still around but is not a museum in the UK, it's in Dubai, they sold another one. They scrapped or sold nearly ALL of their ocean liners, save for the SS Great Britain, and the Queen Mary 2. Which I am certain once QM2 is out of service they're going to sell her to a foreign nation or scrap her.

This was all as predictable as the sunrises and sunsets we see every day. If there's no money in it, it's just a bazillion tons of extra baggage. Every single person reading this will become that ship as soon as you aren't worth anything to anyone anymore.

@Undim
@Undim 4 ай бұрын
It's worth preserving. You're treating it like an old civic or some shit. The ship is one of the last of it's kind, record breaking in its class. You realize we are in 2024? You know just how long it's been since these ships were even made? The fact it still exists is astounding. Most were scrapped. And here it is in 2024, still existing. And you're saying it shouldn't exist anymore because it has some surface rust and is "ugly" because of the paint and lack of furnishings. Just doesn't make sense. We don't have much history left.

@@Undim It would cost billions to put it back to a 1960's status and then the question would still be what to do with it. Museum ship as rule do not make money The Queen Mary which was intact and sailed in on her own power has been in and out of dire financial straits more than a few times
@Undim
@Undim 4 ай бұрын
@@daleferber2096 Billions is an overstatement. It would be less than 10 million to make it presentable (less ugly), another 10 million to 100 million to "give it a purpose" depending what you do (museum with paid tours to raise funds for full restoration, literally any type of business you don't even have to use the full ship) , and a few hundred million (max 500m) to basically bring it back to spec. And then what do you have? A restored ocean liner that you'd never be able to see anywhere else ever again. There's a lot you can do with it to over time restore it. Nobody ever said someone had to dump hundreds of millions in it right away. Like I said, it's worth saving even to tuck away until someone does restore it. Destroying it is nonsense.

The original engineer is dead which makes this more difficult this also runs on coal the room alone takes 20 rough hardworking men to operate at minimum 50k lbs of coal a complete engine rebuild would probably be needed definitely seized sitting where it is it would be at least a couple hundred million dollars to get it anywhere close to functional not including the structural integrity of the frame maneuverability of the rotor then trying to find a team of engineers it needs to operate at basic capacity then anyone who gets on is a lawsuit waiting to happen I wish someone would but money wouldn’t get this done alone.
