I liked how the Dorset ewe marked #15 (I think I read that right) was so helpful with all those little lambs, as they walked to the coveralls. Such cute little baby lambs. Love watching them run and play. Good looking feeders, Arnie. “If the women don’t find you handsome, they should at least find you handy”. And, as Red Green would also say, “Quondo Omni Flunkus Mortati” (When All Else Fails, Play Dead.)😅 Your Cinderella loves you, Arnie, and finds you handy. 😊😊😊

Good evening Arnie and Lynn. Lamb races. I would like to have some of that energy. Great speech Arnie for 130 in the morning. Quite informative. I love what I learn. Coffee with your sweet wife. Perfect. Thank you for sharing all the information about the moms and lambs. That little ewe lamb is so cute. I think the feeder design is quite clever and gives the lambs a cubby to lay in for safety. Love them. That way both sides are comfy for both moms and lambs. The Dorset crew did a good job getting to the lamb barn. That mommy tgat will adopt lambs needs a gold star as a stellar mom. Those lambies look so snug in the straw. What a beautiful video. Lynn I got the calendar. It brought tears to my eyes. I remember seeing the sheep in the pictures. It melted my heart. I am proud to be an Ewetopian. It is a privilege. Thank you so much. Big big hugs to you both. 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰❤️❤️❤️

Goodmorning from cold Tennessee, the new lambs are so cute they grow fast .I just went to my barn fed 2 pot belly pigs and 4 hens a cat and a mean silky rooster that i have to catch when he flying toward me so i can hold him to feed him and water his crazy feather butt.After i took my granddaughter to school. Have a wonderful week.

Arnie, you can call the lamb space a cave which Lynn likes or a dungeon if you want. I had suggested a hideaway because most people think of a dungeon as a scary place not as a safe space. It's your barn and you may certainly call it whatever you want. Don't feel like you can't. The hay feeder was a great idea!

Hey, Arnie, here's a theory. What if the white lambs are up faster than the dark lambs due to an instinct for survival, as the white lambs have no natural camouflage Instinct driving them to be ready to flee from danger. The dark ones would blend with a shrub or rocks if they stay down and still. Just a theory I thought you might consider.. I like that feeder, too. Good idea.

Exciting and busy times over there, hang in there!😊 Love the new feeder, very nice work! I hear and respect views on terminal vs maternal breeds. There is much value in focusing on both. Heritage breed livestock (often more maternal) and poultry have lost favor since industrial ag and the focus shifted to creating breeds that grow faster and bigger. Some heritage breeds may one day be extinct and those genetics will be lost forever.
@EwetopiaFarms
@EwetopiaFarms Жыл бұрын
I totally agree that there is a place for everything. I love the heritage breeds - I use to have Shetlands - and we don't want to lose them. Suffolks however are not a new breed either. They have been around for hundreds of years and stayed on top over all that time for their specific qualities. I also totally love the hill sheep too! I love all animals really 😊

i grew up at farm that has sheep barn that was build in 1960 and we still have lamb caves in it that lambs like to sleep in and never had problem other that we wonder where lambs are until you walk the hay garden (area where hay feeders are) so lambs jump out , we added two more sheep barns in last 30 years and still use lamb caves so i say its must to have lamb caves

I had a first timer ewe thats loved all the lambs too much and was feeding an army and got milk fever. Luckily I caught it early, but I had to stall her for almost a month. She figured it out by her next lambing and was punting all the other lambs like footballs her next lambing season🤣Its nice for adopting a lamb but not all the lambs lol.

Can you show how you fixed it so that the lambs from the Dorset breed in the coveralls, can't get over with the rams via the lamb caves. In other words, use the space under the feeders to go over to the ram side. How did you fix it so the two sides don't mix?

We have boards running down the middle on the undersides of the feeders so that prevents sheep sneaking through and the lamb caves

Off topic a bit: your ewes (both breeds) seen to have consistent twinning. Are the sheep the have 3 or 4 bred to have that many lambs? It seems that those sheep have high mortality rates in lambs and end up w an average of the flock being 2 per ewe. Why have sheep that have high lamb mortality or rejections?
@EwetopiaFarms
@EwetopiaFarms Жыл бұрын
Yes, we have a high twin ratio and low mortality - thanks for noticing that. We think this is ideal. There are some breeds such as Rideau Arcott in Canada which were developed to have more lambs with the theory being that you will make more money. We disagree with that for many reasons, check some of our past videos on terminal versus maternal breeds. The more lambs, the more chances of things going wrong and therefore higher mortality, smaller lambs, bottle fed lambs, slower to get to market, more work, etc etc
@WeatherMoon
