Action Replay Plus 4M for Sega Saturn - Region Free Console!!

Hi all,
Just a quick video showing a recent pickup for my Sega Saturn - The Action Replay 4m Auto Plus!!
This device acts as an Action Replay (provides cheat codes), a 4m memory card for saved game data, both a 1m & 4m video RAM upgrade for the console and most importantly for me, it allows the console to play games from any region!
My Saturn is an Australian PAL 'Euro' format console. With this unit I can now play US and Japanese games :)
You can buy these Action Replays brand new from online stores such as 'Play Asia' for around $25.

The exact one I got from Play Asia for my Saturn! A requirement for the system outside of Japan, as far as I 'm concerned. Too many great games were regional. Especially freaking Radiant Silvergun, congrats on owning that!

Brilliant purchase. A must buy for PAL systems for sure. Nice to see you got Radiant Silvergun and for a good price too. Having that pickup out of the way makes collecting a lot easier.

I Love the Saturn too and also bought the Action Replay Plus,mines the older version with the computer connection on top and I also did the Saturn PCB Chip upgrade so I can back up games ect.. The Saturn has some Awesome games and some of the BEST shmup's Ever! Yeah,your floor is pretty Sweet,my house was built in 1896 and I've been redoing the floors forever LOL ;0)

I just bought this baby on Play Asia and when it comes into the mail, I'm gonna dig out my Saturn my Aunt's friend gave to me back in 2008, (She bought it in 1995, 17 years ago, WOW!) and play Marvel Vs Street Fighter. I just love retro.

@swiftcirrus I'm doing the 60hz mod to my console at the moment, but you don't NEED to. The imports play fine and are far from useless. Sure, 60hz is preferable, but people have been playing games just fine at PAL speeds for decades... Agreed though, if you don't mind opening up your Saturn, the mod is very simple to do and definitely worth it.

While It is true that the action replay cart CAN run region locked games it can't play ALL Japanese games. The game's it won't play are the games that require the RAM expansion cart. The only way you can get around this, (to my knowledge) is modding your saturn to install a switch to play Japanese games. Just a fair warning to Saturn buyers.

@nJunkie Yep. It will allow any region game to be played on any region console. It is also a memory card, RAM expansion card for the games that require the additional video RAM and also an Action Replay for cheat codes etc... It's excellent. For $25 or so, it is one of the best things you could buy for your Saturn.

It's can't play burned games. It only unlocks the region-locks for the games. The extra ram is to play games like X-men vs. Street Fighter, where the game need the 4M expansion RAM. The only way to play burned games would be to modify your console. =)

@ValhartX Sorry for the delay in responding.. Yep, it works well. As you can see from the other comments that have been posted, people are using them just fine. Mine took about 5 business days or so to get here from Play Asia. Did yours ever work? I've never heard of people having problems with them...

Does the saving part work properly? And how about the games that require 4mb cartridge? Did they work out right? Finally, have you tested it with burn games?

My action replay cartridge has a serial port on top of the cart. I guess it's for updating or something?

modchips for the Saturn are out there though, and are very easy to install if you have a model 2 console. I chipped mine in about 5 minutes, no lie :)

@RiddlerOnYutube Hey thanks :) Definitely happy to get hold of Radiant Silvergun. I have put a couple of hours into it so far and am really enjoying it. It's a great game if you're into side / vertical shooters. I certainly agree that the Action Replay is a must have!

My street fighter isnt working. But a have the action replay 1/4. It say s in needs 4 ram.

The action replay only allows the software to be played. It won't convert the output to 60hz unfortunately.

What functions does the ram cart with the chinese characters that was initially in the console have? I bought the same one on ebay for 10 bucks assuming it was a just chinese version of the action replay. I could not find any info on it online. I have a japanese saturn I bought on ebay coming in the mail, so I'm hoping the cart has at least the auto ram functionality.

Still have to chip the Saturn to read backup games. With this card you can play Japan games.

So I bought what I thought was a region free Saturn (Bios built in) on Ebay. The description for the wrong product code. I ended up getting a regular Japanese Saturn. The seller gave me a full refund. So I bought a action replay card to play domestic. It's so ironic I need a Action replay cart to play games from my own soil 🤣🤣🤣

You install pseudo-saturn on the card and then you can play backup cds

You still need to add a 60hz switch, playing imports in 50hz is useless!
