@3:15 when he asks, "Are you sure this is the way?" and the other guy responds, "We're never sure!" That's how you know these guys are up-to some serious spelunking. In the next scene they reach some crystals. This directly highlights the rewarding experience of exploring every pit/tunnel/mine, etc that only the brave and prepared can experience first-hand. Thanks for the videos! I've found great-joy in absorbing almost your entire channel in these past few weeks! I look forward to many more videos & posibly re-visits of previously recorded caves! Your content takes me back to my years in scouting where I was able to explore Mammoth cave once, and climb-outdoors pretty regularly year-round. I've got to buy my own climbing gear nowadays and I'm going to start with a gri-gri just so they'll allow me to belay at my closest gym, but Ellis Cave is on my bucket-list now - after I brush-up on things. The best part about your videos is that you guys sound exactly like we did when we were in a cave, every time 😂 You guys are the only people on KZbin experiencing caves properly - but I haven't seen all of the content on here yet

I have to say that in my younger years, with old mine shafts and caving that I have explored, I have never ad big enough brass ones like you guys have. There is no way I'd have gone into the places you have been. This video is extremely entertaining with many dangerous and exciting areas of the cave. Be careful, be safe, and enjoy what your doing while you are young. God bless!

awesome pieces of calcite, particularly the cubic ones in the first room, theyre referred to as "icelandic spar." it was used a lot of the time to track the sun in low light conditions by vikings and other sea-faring cultures in the north atlantic. the birefringence properties allow the crystals to split light in such a way that mirrors light back to the C axis, Kodak used to source it from mexico to make gunsights for ww2 fighter planes

There are tritium key chains that you can get which provide a light source that lasts 11 years before degrading. Please consider getting one of these (the largest you can get). It doesn't seem like a lot of light, because it isn't, but in pitch black darkness, such as if your lights were broken or went dead deep down in a cave, it would be an absolute life saver. It would provide just enough light to faintly see your surroundings, which is all you need in a life or death situation, stuck in the dark. I noticed how useful these little key chains were when a hurricane hit and our lights went out. After about 30 minutes, my eyes adjusted to what little light they give off and I was able to navigate through my home. Seriously, in a normal lit room, they don't even glow. But at night in pitch black, it's amazing what eyes can adjust to and just how bright they can seem.

We did a 13 hour trip in there back in the 90's. Always a very wet muddy and cold experience. We got into Shriebers extension. There was a place where those crystals are in the streambed. If you look carefully at the walls in the entrance you will see marine fossils. This proves all that was under the ocean at one point very far back in history. Keep exploring and respecting these places. There is a cave nearby called hoot owl cave and an even better prospect for a second entrance into Pettyjohns called North bend sink. It is full of brown recluse spiders and you need vertical gear.
@ActionAdventureTwins
@ActionAdventureTwins 2 жыл бұрын
that's so cool, we're going to try to make it far into shreibers extension soon. We have been into northbend sink twice now. We were told it may be a second entrance to petty johns cave. we went a week ago and felt one passage blowing a bunch of cold air out of it and we're going to go back and explore it. so far we haven't needed vertical gear for it though.

@@ActionAdventureTwins We dug and reburied a hole in North bend sink. There were at least two long talus slopes going down 150 feet or better. Someone had to have found our dig by now. We wanted to find an entrance to Pettijohns that bypassed a lot of the crawls. The airflow is there. It may simply be too tight to get into without breaking rock. Zach with the Walker county rescue squad up there is a good contact to go vertical caving in that area.

@@tylersakir7119 Going alone is irresponsible as there is nothing worth dying for in that cave. Sad I see trash in the entrance room people have no respect. Wish they'd put a gate over it so you have to call the forestry for a combination and permission.

@@theForrestGalantey if you have ever actually been in that cave or even been caving at all you would understand that it's very hard to even come close to dying In there. Also I have a high experience level in many forms of exploration including things like wilderness first aid and first responder qualifications to rope access and rescue. I'm an eagle scout and well rounded in leadership skills and many outdoors related activities and skills. With all due respect... You are an idiot and have no idea what you are talking about and are out of your element in this comment section.

Absolutely love your videos, gripping and interesting, would love to experience it but scares the hell out of me. So many questions.. How do you navigate your way out once you push on to a new cave? Are they mapped? How do you know that you’ve discovered something that’s never been seen by another human before? What depth are you at? Thanks for posting these videos
@ActionAdventureTwins
@ActionAdventureTwins 2 жыл бұрын
we usually just find our way back out the same way we came in from memory but it doesn't always work that way. sometimes we just walk until we find something familiar and realize we have made a loop. in this spot we could see on the map that the waterfall was where the map stopped and the source of the water for it was a mystery so we knew if we could climb up into it we would be in a new part of the cave where nobody had been before. not sure exactly how deep that part of the cave was but there was at least 250 feet of rock above our heads in the lower passages
