I caved for 20 years as a young man, primarily in a four county spread across the Kentucky-Tennessee State Line back in the 1990's and 2000's. We did nothing but virgin caves which is such a satisfying process from ridge-walking, discovery, initial recon, mapping and finally hard pushing every lead we could locate and building a cave map. Listening to you guys joke and react to the underground wilderness is such a joy and brings a huge smile to my face. Thanks for bringing us along with you. Twenty years ago we used to openly talk about how great it would be to film our adventures, but the state of technology in that time made it nearly impossible. The invention of LED lightening, digital recording, micro storage chips, and far better batteries are the stuff from our original fantasies. How I wish it had been there thirty years sooner. The best years of my life.

Awesome you got to pioneer some of that. Talking about technology as it was. But we went to the moon with that amazing technology and now we lost that great technology so we can't go back. Let's see what BS they pull next year when they say they will go. Usually throughout time they just keep postponing every selection. Heard the government is closing so many caves.

Sounds like you guys did pretty well with what you were working with. I suppose it will always be like this now that the technology ball is rolling along instead of just barely moving at all. With it rolling along, forward, we get to see and use new technology as it comes into being which is much better than us being long gone and only future generations seeing a change here and there. Back just a few generations and they really didn't see much of anything change in a lifetime My grandfathers lifetime saw very little advancements. To them automobiles coming into existence even tho there was few roads and fewer cars was big. TV's seemed a big deal too even tho they were very crude and there was nothing much to see on them.

I was wondering when you guys would make your way over to my neck of the woods! I recognized the cave immediately, both from the entrance and the thumbnail room. (And the statistic). Fun fact: At the very end of the cave, there’s a body of water. We (me and a friend in our caving group that day) swam on tubes to the opposite end of the cave, and then jogged for another 5 minutes or so. At the very end, which DOES dead end, is a naked Barbie doll and a mix CD. 😂

So, you didn't show the passage that takes off to the left there near the entrance. The graffiti in that passage is why I don't tell people where caves are. This is one of the first we explored when we lived in this community, and the damage short of the breakdown pile was heart rending. Once you get over that breakdown, there's nothing because most people don't know how to get through it. Also, that breakdown pile used to be much more open than it is now. Back in 2018 we did a tour to the smallest of the 4 rooms and upon exiting the cave and hiking back to the parking area, we came across a church group out of Alabama that was headed in. The next day other members of our Grotto went to the cave and found it full of dust, signs of a campfires near the base of the breakdown pile and abandon equipment. Most of the pile was blocked off by fresh breakdown. Below commenters have asked where this cave is. Find a grotto. Get to know the people. Go caving with them. They're going to take you to a locked cave, and you're gonna be on probation for a number of tours before they start revealing wild caves to you. Why? Because too often good caves get ruined by bad people.

I also have the acebeam X80-gt which is 30,000ish lumins which is dangerously bright. Then I bought the X75 and had to put it under lock and key. However, I’m going to finally be that curmudgeonly old dude by saying this is the first vid that I’ve seen where someone not only fell while running, but fell 3x in the span of about 10-15 minutes. Toward the end, it appears the same person was laid out on his back, complaining of his elbow and a pinky injury. I’m not sure how extensive his injuries actually turned out to be, but I hope your group is- and I encourage you to be- prepared in the case of a more severe injury requiring assistance or extrication and minimize risky actions. Even smaller injuries (such as lacerations on exposed skin) can be magnified underground. Not trying to come down hard on you, I just care about you guys and appreciate your enthusiasm for the underground.

I think this cave is more dangerous for groundfall than an average abandoned hard-rock mine. (Although false floors are a bigger hazard in abandoned mines). All you need to do is just look at the ceilinngs of those 3 big rooms and the muontains of huge groundfall slabs on the floors of them to figure that out. The best way to navigate is to stay along the edges of those rooms.

@@dreadnoughtus2598 Its a slpw process, a slad falls now and then, here and there. Huge multi-ton slabs of rock. So it hasn't all fallen until it reaches the surface and leaves a big sink. You just look at the ceilings of those rooms, and you see that they are all fracfured Huge slabs just waiting to fall. And the problem is that you never know when one will fall. You can only hope that its not one you;re under at that time. That slow breakdown will continue for centuries of millenia until its all collapsed. And BTW, if I'm not mistaken, It's been surveyed to 6 miles and change.

Grass is a type of plant with narrow leaves growing from the base. Their appearance as a common plant was in the mid-Cretaceous period. There are 12,000 species now.[3] A common kind of grass is used to cover the ground in places such as lawns and parks. Grass is usually the color green. That is because they are wind-pollinated rather than insect-pollinated, so they do not have to attract insects. Green is the best colour for photosynthesis. Grasslands such as savannah and prairie where grasses are dominant cover 40.5% of the land area of the Earth, except Greenland and Antarctica.[4] Grasses are monocotyledon herbaceous plants. They include the "grass" of the family Poaceae, which are called grass by ordinary people. This family is also called the Gramineae, and includes some of the sedges (Cyperaceae) and the rushes (Juncaceae).[5] These three families are not very closely related, though all of them belong to clades in the order Poales. They are similar adaptations to a similar life-style. With about 780 genera and about 12,000 species,[3] the Poaceae is the fifth-largest plant family. Only the Asteraceae, Orchidaceae, Fabaceae and Rubiaceae have more species.[6] The true grasses include cereals, bamboo and the grasses of lawns (turf) and grassland. Uses for graminoids include food (as grain, shoots or rhizomes), drink (beer, whisky), pasture for livestock, thatch, paper, fuel, clothing, insulation, construction, sports turf, basket weaving and many others. Many grasses are short, but some grasses can grow tall, such as bamboo. Plants from the grass family can grow in many places and make grasslands, including areas which are very arid or cold. There are several other plants that look similar to grass and are referred to as such, but are not members of the grass family. These plants include rushes, reeds, papyrus and water chestnut. Seagrass is a monocot in the order Alismatales. Grasses are an important food for many animals, such as deer, buffalo, cattle, mice, grasshoppers, caterpillars and many other grazers.

How and when did these massive caves form? Melting water from the last ice age? I don't see them being created by small streams of water or could they?

i'm too claustrophobic to ever do anything like that but love watching you go there. i have to look away when you get stuck or are in very tight places now and then to let myself calm down before i can resume watching, but I keep coming back. thank you for all you do. singed... those of us who cant even get through an MRI machine, lol.
