Digging and displacing material in caves is a *huge* nono for normal people (not necessarily expedition teams). Especially for relatively accessible caves like PettyJohn. The NSS would have your ass.

Petty johns cave is a sacrificial cave, that has had way worse done to it than scooping a little mud out of the way to get into new areas. And the area we were in floods everytime it rains so new mud will simply wash back into place eventually

No wonder my FSU caving club would take special trips to NorthGeorgia/Alabama. I did not have back then the rope skills! Everyone of those waterfalls that stream into a room or passage comes from somewhere. Might be a long cave up above and the entrance too. I am curious as to why no one seems to find where all the waters go to! I suspect that many many springs that are at the bottom of a limestone layer of rock are the exit point for a cave. Probably the tunnel gets real small or that this tunnel goes underwater. Thus few caves have an exit that can be exited from. I once walked around a small cave then noticed as I came to a "T" intersection, a stream of water was in it. Come to find out that there was an exit maybe 1000 feet away, an exit that might have been all of 12" by 8". Also, the entrance maybe 2000 feet away was also the same size. If it were not for that middle large entrance this cave would be forever hidden from exploration.
