Miami Scooter Ride : Downtown Miami to Key Biscayne (May 2022)

Key Biscayne is known to be a oasis of many different things for people from all over. With its lovely beaches, nature preserves, restaurants, and small businesses, it offers something for everyone. It is also home to the Ritz Carlton hotel and 19th Century Cape Florida lighthouse. I take a journey from Downtown Miami to Key Biscayne on my electric scooter, and take the Rickenbacker Causeway past Virginia Key and Crandon Park along the way.

Hi there. That first bridge, like I told you used to be a draw bridge and if you wanted on or off the beach you had to time your driving time. My father used to "Fish Shrimp" off that bridge, there is a catwalk beneath it. But they really did a fine job renovating the drive out. At the SeaQuarium there used to be 2 killer whales on display, one of them died a long time ago. It's a nice few hours of distraction. They've been trying to end the entertainment by animals there for a long time. Yes the bike lane is an addition to what was there before, the causeway used to be a bare bones kind of drive with the open beaches to each side of the causeway, it was never paved before or organized like it is today. To the left of the second bridge crossing off Virginia key there used to be the beach I told you about but they closed it due to the undertow danger. Crandon Park Beach is along the left side of the island there, the other large public beach. The end of the island is all private residences, hotels and where the Lighthouse is at the point. We used to camp at the lighthouse when I was in scouts.
