Ken, there are so many things you missed about our beautiful neighborhood. If you had started on the Avenue and not the blocks you would have seen the stores, bars/restaurants the awesome parks and public walking, biking paths. Our streets are finally being fixed from Super Storm Sandy, VERY slowly but it's getting done. We are a proud diverse community. Had you had slowed down, packed a lunch to eat on one of our many benches and or taken a walk in the wetlands maybe you could have gotten more then potholes 😆. But thank you for riding on through our beloved little part of NYC.

Great Video, I lived in Gerritsen Beach, you rode right past my old house on Cyrus Ave. which is considered the OLD SECTION, so much has changed in the area, all the houses use to be bungalows, and look at them now. Miss my home town so much.

Next time you're in Sheephead Bay please visit Emmons Avenue - famous for its many clam houses. When you grow up in Brooklyn like I did, you eat sea food, especially clams --- yum! At about 19:55 you said "this does not look like NYC, folks" --- so true! Looked more like South St Paul, MN last year when the city worked on its old pipe lines and streets. Thanks for sharing.

I grew up in the area. The streets have always been bad down there. The reason the streets are so narrow is that the Beach was originally a summer bungalow community. And then people started living there year round (sorta like City Island in the Bronx). The houses closest to the water have a tendency to flood .... Sometime in the early to mid 1960's, there was a flood and we had to be carried out of the house. My nana's house was below the road.....

Always surprises me that in most US suburbs all the retail is bunched up together away from residential neighourbhoods. Must be strict zoning laws because otherwise it doesn't make sense to me.

I think it's also because of safety. If a store was in the middle of nowhere it wouldn't be safe if there was a gang in town.

@@professional.commentator This neighborhood was developed on filled in marshland in the early 1920s. To the best of jy knowledge, the houses in the "New Section" were starting to be completed by 1923. Crime was not even a concept for this area back then. Doors were left unlocked. Many families, if not most, did not own a car, and those that did owned only one. Most women stayed home to raise their children and most did not have a drivers license. If they needed to go shopping they could pull their shopping cart up to them avenue. It's an old concept; it's called community.

The NYC Borough of Brooklyn, AKA Kings County, is THE second most densely populated county in the entire United States of America. It houses 2.7 million people within 69.5 square miles. Until 1898 it was a separate City. If it still were the City of Brooklyn, it would be the 3rd largest city in the country. We don't consider it to be a "suburb."

Very unique neighborhood. Definitely away from city life (although that is the city) it is very nice community with beautiful homes. Wished I could've seen the Marina. Love the neighborhood beach. But not my style lol. Doesn't take nothing away bc who knows if I ever end up living there. But I've always loved living walking distance from bodegas, grocery stores, shopping and eating. I need those things close to me 👍
