I clearly see that you are trying to inform and not trying to make money. Dentistry is a tough industry and something that takes a lot of heart to do. I also saw you were a bit camera shy as well. You did great and were very helpful. Thank you for informing people of other natural products that actually work and not just giving a "don't do it, just let me fix it" approach. It would be a shame to see perfectly good youtuber teeth degraded because of some trend. Activated charcoal is good for gas and bloating, absorbing when you swallowed poisoning before seeing a hospital, and making a paste for burns. My favorite if for face masks. All of which will not degrade skin or teeth. I like to save my teeth as much as possible. Thanks again.

"choose all the BEST studies", what are the BEST studies? How they are choosing them? I am using Charcoal powder for a long time (one time per week) and it is keeping my teeth white. I am a smoker and a coffee addict and this is the only thing that helps my teeth.
@KantorDental
@KantorDental 5 жыл бұрын
Carol Walker excellent question. All Review articles select studies based on certain criteria. In this case the criteria was population size, peer review, more than 2 years and a couple others, you can find it in the article. As for keeping your teeth white from constant surface staining I would suggest using the charcoal powder a little less. It is usually very abrasive and can damage teeth if used too often. Also make sure you don't eat anything acidic within 15 minutes so your enamel is as strong as possible during the abrasion. Hope this helps!

Dr. Do you worry about fluoride? Do you worry about toxic chemicals in fillings and root canals you perform?
@KantorDental
@KantorDental 6 жыл бұрын
brian conner I do not. There are toxic affects of high doses of fluoride. There is mercury in amalgam fillings. There is BPA in composite (white) fillings. There is a chance of recurrent infection in a root canal. There are also other rare risks associated with dental procedures. The only other option is to let the tooth decay away or extract the tooth. All dental procedures are done to save teeth. All chemical's used are in low enough concentration to not affect your body. And I say this having read multiple studies supporting this claim. The studies presented to support claims of toxicity of dental materials are at best inconclusive, usually poorly done and frequently anecdotal.

Hey, I really appreciate this video you made, along with the citation of the resource. I found myself in the classical Californian predicament, my mother wants me to use "all natural" products. My father suggested I get my teeth whitened, as I drink a large amount of coffee and other staining drinks. He really doesn't have a preference on the product I use. So, my mom went and bought this stuff, because it was cheap (and lets be honest, their marketing is pretty good). I have used it only for about one week, but my teeth are already becoming more sensitive. I'm not sure I should continue to use this product. Should I see my dentist about these issues? and, what is the product you would recommend to use for teeth whitening. Again, thank you for the video; I hope you respond to my comment. - Ryan Waymire.
@KantorDental
@KantorDental 6 жыл бұрын
Ryan Waymire glad you liked the video. If you have noticed increased sensitivity that doesn’t go away after 48 hrs I would stop using the product. Dental whitening products that your dentist offers will cause your teeth to become more sensitive but only for a couple days. Most dentists offer either a hydrogen peroxide or a carbomide peroxide. Both are equally as “natural” as activated charcoal and have proven to be safe and effective. Definitely see your dentist to explore his/her options for teeth whitening.

Heather Morrisseau I’m not sure. There’s never been a study on that. In my opinion the chemical you use on your teeth isn’t as important as the mechanical removal of plaque (ie brushing and flossing). So first make sure you are brushing and flossing correctly. Beautiful healthy teeth will follow.

Would the charcoal still whiten teeth if it was applied to the teeth and let sit for a few minutes, but NOT scrubbed around with the toothbrush? This might eliminate the majority of the abrasive effects, and maybe the charcoal would still pull stains off the teeth? Also, I was wondering about swishing with hydrogen peroxide. Pros/cons of that? Thanks! :)
@KantorDental
@KantorDental 6 жыл бұрын
Megan Smith Great questions! But I doubt the charcoal will whiten without brushing. My guess (there is no study) is that the whitening effects of charcoal are from the abrasives. Just like other whitening toothpastes. Hydrogen peroxide is a great mouth rinse. Mix the 5% solution with water 50/50.

wayne morris I agree it is unlikely that it will destroy your teeth in a short period of time. All I’m saying is that more studies are needed to determine the safety or even just a small test by the charcoal company to report the abrasiveness of the product.

Dentists are losing a ton of money because people are using inexpensive Charcoal to whiten their teeth lol. Any time you see major companies or industries debunking cheap methods ... it's probably because they are losing money. After all ... if people can safely and effectively whiten their teeth at home .... why pay a month's salary to get it done at a dentist? It all comes down to money.

Jeffrey Perry yes toothpaste is also abrasive. But most commercial toothpastes use silica as an abrasive which has been shown to have minimal effect on the enamel while maintaining a whiter smile. I do worry about the increased abrasiveness of whitening toothpaste and do not suggest those. The article that I refer to in the video is only saying that more testing is necessary to determine the safety of its abrasive nature.
@KantorDental
@KantorDental 6 жыл бұрын

The fact you don't know what a review is makes me think you aren't qualified to discuss this. A review definitely does not look at EVERY STUDY the matter... that's just bizarre.. a review just means someone writes an overview of a subject from their perception as they see it, citing relevant studies that they used to ascertain that perception. Please don't pretend to be a scientist and make scientists look bad by saying bullshit like that. Reviews aren't fact! You have to look at the studies they cited in the review and analyse the studies and whether they are valid...
@KantorDental
@KantorDental 6 жыл бұрын
MrHappyAdjustableSpanners Ignoring the negative comments I think you bring up an interesting topic. Review articles should not be a perspective they should simply be a survey. One that summarizes our current understanding. The author needs to review every article published on the subject, create criteria that selects qualified studies (in this case population size and peer review were important), perform statistical analysis, and discuss the analysis. The only conclusion made, in this article, was that more studies are needed. Also I agree that review articles are definitely not fact. They just support or deny a conclusion. As I rewatch my video scrutinizing my wording I try to never use words like “prove” or “fact.” As these would be incorrect. Instead I use words like “show” or “support.” Please read the article and thanks for the comment.

While it's true that reviews themselves are not facts, viewers of those videos believe the claims that the reviewer makes. The reviewer may have not done much research themselves, AND they are also probably looking for the views, likes and subscribers to gain rather than how their video will affect their viewers health.

Ryan Wind you’re totally right! Speaking in front of a camera is hard for me. Hopefully I’ll get better at it in my future videos. Thanks for the feedback!

Kantor Dental Group well I misspelled super. All credibility lost. Instead of saying um or uh, leave a pause. It's tough to train yourself to do but when you do it effectively you sound like a gem rather than someone who's trying to think of what to say. I think that's why the one young lady here questioned if you were in fact a doctor. On a side note, I reread my post and it comes off snarky. I assure you, I wasn't being facetious. You're a smart guy but you come off poorly when you're stumbling over your words. Slow and confident. Works every time my friend.

Matthew Wilson I didn't say he wasn't allowed to. Just some tips on public speaking which he admittedly said he needs help with.

Fish Tank Advice Actually the conclusion of the study is that more studies are necessary. It only brings up possible risks.
