The 2018 London Chess Classic, taking place from December 11-17, will be a knockout tournament played between the four Grand Chess Tour finalists: Caruana, Vachier-Lagrave, Aronian, and Nakamura. Google HQ in London will host the semi-final, and the final will be held at the Olympia Conference Centre in Kensington.
The matches consist of eight games, two classical (worth 6 points), two Rapid (4 points) and four Blitz (2 points). In case of a tie, a rapid mini-match (10+5) and an Armageddon (5 vs 4) will be played.
The prize fund is $300,000 with a first prize of $75,000, plus another $100,000 and $50,000 respectively for the top two in the overall 2018 Grand Chess Tour standings. Players receive 100 minutes for 40 moves then 60 minutes for the rest of the game, with a 30-second delay from move 1, for the Rapid (25+5) and the Blitz (3+2). (1)

Nakamura gave a Christmas present to Carlsen. Lowered Caruana's classical rating, lowered MVL's blitz rating... Thus making Carlsen again the №1 in all categories. You can check it on 2700chess...

Since the state of classical chess is so drawish right now I would say that a combined rating between classical, rapid and blitz is the most appropiate rating. In that regard Nakamura is #2 if you ask me (idk if he’s #2 including bullet though)

The championship was a statsitical anonymly. Chess has been drawish for a long time. I disagree about the blitz rating. But, I wouldn't mind rapid counting towards your rating. But, classical rating is what chess should be judged on. It shouldn't be about someone winning due to some random oversight due to time, but someone out playing another due to pure skill. I think things will reblanace itself since a lot of the new chess "engines" aren't really chess engines. I think the goal should be to play like an engine who plays likes a human instead of trying to play as a human who plays like an engine. This is being reflected lately with AlphaZero and Leela. Time will tell, but I think things will start to change. But, don't be fooled to think that chess hasn't been extremely drawish for a long time.

@@victorpetrescu6586 Was it thought? Carlsen - Karjakin had 10 draws, Anand - Gelfand had 10 draws, and that what I can recall from the top of my head, not to mention Kasparov - Karpov dozens of draws. 12 draws doesn't seems out of this world to me. And playing faster time formats still takes skill, the games are usually more tactical and the lines played more intuitively, while in Classical every move is calculated over and over again. I my self have an bullet rating 200 ELO higher then my Blitz which is 150 ELO higher then my Rapid. But these are different skills, so I agree we should keep them individualized. I would mind seeing an mean rating with all time formats taken in consideration.

At 7:25, I'm quickly calculating that I can't calculate an escape for my queen, and at least grabbing the knight and bishop for her and a pawn.

Maybe I would play it better in a classical time format, maybe not, maybe I'm stupid.

For people who still do not understand why Qg4 doesn’t work, Nh6 forks the king and queen. Enjoy the increase in vast knowledge.
