This program is available to veterans and civilians now as well! I was already out of the Army when I started this month and one of the other students is a civilian and has never served

Question about the TMAP program. I’m currently station at Fort Irwin and would like to go through this program at Carson. Does anyone know if they provide barracks or lodging while taking the course? Appreciate any information that can be provided in regards to my question.

I’m not exactly sure if they’d provide barracks or if you’d be out of pocket for a hotel. If you go to your SFL-TAP office and talk to the CSP coordinator, they should be able to help set it all up.

Currently in the course at Carson. One guy is staying in a hotel paid for by ABF since he lives a good drive away. Not sure how to go about setting that up but at least you know it's possible

I seen that some or all the trucks you’ve driven on the channel has been automatic, is that a company wide thing? And do you use straight drive in training or no?

All of our road tractors are automatics, there are still some manual city tractors floating around. We used 10 speeds in the training program I went through.

As someone considering the possibility of transferring to a TX terminal from my current terminal (Dallas was my first choice) is there any way you could put me in contact with someone on the city board that could give me the details of what its like on the city board there? Currently have a UPACK/Flatbed weekend bid and happy with it. Curious of what bids they have, workload, etc. Thank you!

Yes, they’ve always been very cooperative.

ABF has linehaul during the day? You on an extra board or home daily? How many hours do they put you through?

I am extra board and we have runs 24/7. Some runs are turns (home same day) and some are laydowns. Typically we stay out 1 laydown and return home the next dispatch. Longest I’ve been out on the road is 4 laydowns and it’s very rare to be out that long. As linehaul drivers, we get paid by the mile, not hourly. However, we do have an hourly rate that we get paid for doing yard work, breakdowns, etc.

Mount a camera in the cab. The constant movement of your headcam is annoying.

I mean he kinda had to move to check his mirrors and stuff, and a lot like the headcam because it gives a drivers POV, it's not just about you....
