Parrying the jab with rear hand and going straight into a cross or overhand is one of my go to’s. Works almost every time even when they know it’s coming. We call it skipping the rock in my gym haha

The high guard in street fights works well if used similar to how glen johnson was doing except with more explosion and quickness. They think your just shelling up, they leave themselves open then you explode out of the guard with hooks and uppercuts. They don’t know what’s coming at them

You’re right! I’m not sure I didn’t think of him when making the video. He’s one of the few who blends the high guard with footwork sooo well. Thanks to u I have another topic to create a video ✊

I tried the high guard in the amateurs but I felt like I couldn't switch to offense quick enough and I didn't have as much power with my hands that high.
@PrometheusBoxing Жыл бұрын
For more power, twist your body as you block blows, loading your punches as you twist with your hips. You also can lean further forward down at times and throw straights up like your cheering. Since your body is leaning forward, instead of the punch shooting into the air, it shoots directly into the opponents head. The movement of the punch is similar to a single arm shoulder press movement, and can be stepped into as you do it to launch even more kinetic energy into their face. Can work really well AS you slip or duck a punch.

is Brian Castano the best currently active representative of the active high guard defense?
@surgicalboxing15512 жыл бұрын
It’s funny u bring up Castano because I’m making a prelude to war video of him vs Charlo 2. But I’d say Canelo has the best high guard as of right now. Then USYK.
@avtobus12342 жыл бұрын
@@surgicalboxing1551 Honestly, I cannot agree with you on this topic. Canelo eats too many jabs when he's looking to counter from the defensive position. But the way he combines the upper body movement with the high guard, kinda leaning forward and baiting the punches in, as Chocolatito does, is a very interesting and effective technique. Will be looking forward to your video on Castano! Man's a beast. Cheers :)

Very open to 1 2 isnt it? i see people with that guard always get hit with straight shots. Seems to be better than high guard against hooks but worse against straight shots from my casual perspective
@blackhoodie4170Ай бұрын
1 2 is very predictable when you're open to it, therefore you can parry.
@surgicalboxing1551Ай бұрын
They normally close the Guard against straight shots. No static guard blocks every punch. U have to actively make those small moves to block.

I got copyrighted & had to trim the clip 🤣. I have a better film editor now. I think I’m gonna remake a breakdown for the high guard. It is such an incredible defense if you add movement & parries into it. Turning it from static to active.
