In this video I'll get you warmed up and ready for any activity you'll have to do. This is an overall warm up to get your cardiovascular rate up, blood flowing and get your muscles ready for your workout.
This way to warm up was shown to me and to other dancers by Lina Johansson, choreographer and movement director, during Oniegen Season with Garsinton Opera.
www.roh.org.uk/people/lina-joh...
It's a quick and beneficial way to warm up when you need to be quickly ready to go on stage or be ready for rehearsal/class.
Warming up is a very important component of your workout/class which will help you perform at your best, prevent injuries, enhance performance and will make your workout as effective as possible.

This would be great to do with little ones in Pre-ballet or Ballet one. I often feel that children this age don't really have much awareness of their bodies. I was shocked when you started with your fingers, but then I thought, Actually, that makes a lot of sense. Plus it looks like a lot of fun and starting class with some cardio rather than plies would be a great change-up!

Hello There, Thank you lots for your message! Yes This would be a fun way to make young students understand the importance of blood flow, oxygen in the muscles and also learning body parts. Getting the extremities warmed up is very important, that's why plies and tendues are the first exercises at the barre. For young dancers is important to understand that before the barre, as you mentioned, they should learn how to quickly get the muscles ready. I'm sure this will be great for your students, let me know how it goes and what they think, I'm very curious to hear what the outcome is ! Keep me updated ! Ciao and all the best! :D Alessia

You are so right! We did basic ballet at gymnastics training when I was a kid. I think it’s what is missing from gymnastics now. They’ve lost the artistry in favour of power tumbling. That and the code of points favours power tumbling….

Superb video! I never know how to warm up for class, after doing this warm up, can I stretch and then go straight into class? Also I was wondering if you had any advice about improving stamina for dancing all day, I'm starting college this September and I want to do all I can to get ahead Thank you very much, Ursula x
@lazydancertips
@lazydancertips 8 жыл бұрын
+Ursula Whiteley very glad this video can be of help. Getting blood pumping and oxygen in your body is the best way to warm muscles up! Yes you can definitely stretch and go straight into class after this warm up. Improving stamina for dancing all day , well, to be honest it's really a matter of habit. You can go to the gym for a run/power walk ( gradually increasing time) , cardio class or do a couple of dance classes a day if you can find a studio nearby where you live and won't cost you a fortune, in order to keep fit . You'll find your routine as soon as you'll get to school, some days will be easier or harder than others and you'll find your own pace at the end of the first month. When you'll do a new show I guarantee you that, no matter how many classes, stretching, cardio or gym you do, it will always feel as you haven't done anything ! There is always that muscle you haven't worked ! For now do what you can, do your classes but above all enjoy the time off. Believe me you won't get much once you start school and your rest time is just as important as your work time . Love your body! Work it but don't stress it ! We've only got one! Be smart ! You have a long way ahead ! All the best ! And if I can help you with anything else let me know ! Ciao Alessia

Yes. I had Jawbone last yr. switched to Fitbit as Jawbone are moving away from the fitness tracker market. I find Fitbit to be better app wise. Aim for 8-10'000 steps per day but I'm coming from sedentary lifestyle and had to cut it back due to over doing it. Started to get muscle spasms in my lower back haha. Only just got mysteps back up to 6'000. I'm hoping to increase my fitness slowly and saw a news report on older women taking up ballet. Search Silver Swans on google. I'll probably never get en pointe, but I'll die trying. Haha.

+J Patterson yey !!! Glad you like it !! I worked as soloist with Royal New Zealand Ballet for 7 years and when I moved back to London I decided to freelance. I went back to musical theatre with Phantom of the Opera, Cabaret-Musical with Will Young in the West End and tour, Most Incredible Thing with Pet Shop Boys at Sadler's Wells. For the past few years I've also danced with Chantry Dance Company and New English Ballet Theatre both as dancer and ballet mistress . I love the challenge and exploring... It keeps me alive and I find it healthy for the mind 😘😘😊🐒

Can you PLEASE do another warm-up video, but this time a ballet warm-up? I have to use someone else's warm up video, and she isn't nearly as good as you, because I do my work-outs after work and this warm up is a bit much for me what with the jumping and the running and the exercise and all (joke, of course.) but I would love to have one more warm up from you pleeeeeeeeease??
