• The Only Man Kasparov ...
The standings didn't change after Wednesday's fifth round of the FIDE World Chess Candidates’ Tournament in London as all games ended in draws. Facing his own favourite Grünfeld, Peter Svidler (Russia) got a winning position against Boris Gelfand (Israel) but after wild complications the game ended in a draw. Magnus Carlsen (Norway) also played the Grünfeld and for the first time he was under pressure, against Vassily Ivanchuk (Ukraine), but eventually he held a knight ending a pawn down. Vladimir Kramnik (Russia) got his chances in a Réti against Levon Aronian (Armenia), who held an opposite-coloured bishop ending two pawns down. The last game to finish was Alexander Grischuk (Russia) versus Teimour Radjabov (Azerbaijan). In a 5.Bf4 Queen's Gambit Declined White also got very close to a win but with a bishop sacrifice the Azerbaijani held his own.

The picture of the two at 1:12 just makes me laugh for some reason, two highly dignified chess players sitting like they'd rather be doing anything else when realistically their calculating 10 moves ahead per second is funny lol

They are not calculating 10 moves ahead per second, not even 5 or 4, I assure you. Even during many minutes, they often don't succeed in calculating 10 moves ahead. It's a myth.

Actually it's called "this is a drawn position, uh neither side can win" - Agadmator 14:16
@Caaro99
@Caaro99 6 жыл бұрын
no. A dead position is when there are enough materials to mate but you can't for example. the white pawns are on a4, d4, and g4 respectively and the black pawns are on a5,d5, and g5 both kings are on the same side as their pawns. This makes it impossible to get to the other side to free up their pawns. So in this case it is not a Draw by insufficient material as there are enough material to win but it is a dead position. Here is an even more complicated " dead position" Black pieces: Pawns on e3, e7, g3, and g7 Bishop on f8 king in h8 White pieces: pawns on e2, e6, g2, and g6 bishop on f1 a random bishop (white square) anywhere on the board King on h1.
@slowpoke126
@slowpoke126 6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the annotations and indeed that is also a dead position.. I mean, obviously you can call any of it anything you want, but official rules are exactly what I've stated. I was just poking fun at the fact that people have somehow picked up chess site customs as objective, e.g. there are evaluation definitions for blunder or mistake. www.fide.com/fide/handbook.html?id=171&view=article

The crazy thing about the 2013 candidates is that Ivanchuk had winning scores against both the 1st and 2nd best players in the tournament (both carlsen and kramnik finished with 8.5) but he finished in 2nd last. A very chucky performance!

I can really not understand why Carlsen declined the draw Ivanchuk offered him, its not like he had a better position or more material, and didn't end up getting anything out of it. Plus when Chucky offers a draw, you take it.

Nf3 can jump to g5 and attack the queen again. and i think its either a queen run and make the queen misplaced or even worse trap the queen. idk thats the way i saw it since im not really good at seeing couple move ahead lol
