After the white rook comes to the D file black is completely overloaded and down two pawns. Black knight cannot counter because of the check forking the rook

Ivanchuk used to be a freaking powerhouse. The only guy I think to have a + score vs Kasparov in his prime.

I don't believe Ivanchuk managed a plus score versus Kasparov. However, Boris Gulko did achieve this. Kramnik would also have been close. Depends how one determines which were Kasparov's prime years and, I suppose, whether one takes account of games played at non-classical time controls.

The way I see it, he can't make a significant counterattack down 2 pawns and with his Queen and Rook tied down like that. Also, he's not going to lose much rating against Magnus.

@@mikeg2538not even close to a tie. Magnus is up two pawns with a past pawn and and really strong knight outpost. The evaluation shows it and at this level it’s an easy conversion for a win for Magnus.

Do players get to choose or bring their own pieces? It would appear that some of the black pieces are a bit smaller. Check out the size of the pawn spheres at the top. The rooks of each color also appear different…or is this some illusion?🧐

@MilitechNetrunner
@MilitechNetrunner 4 ай бұрын
I'm a newbie chess player and my answer might be wrong, cmiiw. They're thinking hard, predicting opponents next move and thinking what they're going do about it. They basically have this imagination match in their heads. And the hand to support their head gives a little comfort I think. And it's to keep tradition alive why they write down their moves. Ofc they digitally record their games.
