Blood sweat and tears is based on Hermann Hesse's novel 'Demian' it's about temptation, loosing innocence. Namjoon(RM) quotes the book before the last chorus "He too, was a tempter; he, too, was a link to the second, the evil world with which I no longer wanted to have anything to do "

A lot of people have said "they are in a museum" at the beginning. Many people miss the fact that the member V is dressed in what we would call "rich people's" luxury lounge wear while everyone is in their "street wear" so to speak. They are not in a museum, they are in V's house and he is the Fallin Angel, the one tempting the other 6 members. V fell from the balcony, he is the Angel that fell and lost his wings.
@cyann4104 жыл бұрын
Also, when v slips off the railing, it looks like he is falling into a painting. It looks like a Bosch painting, The Garden of Earthly Delights ??? Perhaps ? That painting itself falls directly in line with storyline of the video. It is a triptych painting (3 separate paintings, hung side by side to form one large, complete painting), and the whole subject of the painting is lust, pleasures of the flesh, and temptation, sin and punishment. I could be wrong with which painting it is, but most of Bosch’s paintings center on temptation, sin, heaven and hell. And extreme use of symbolism. I need to look closer and try to identify that painting ! 💜💜💜💜
@cyann4104 жыл бұрын

I don't want it to sound patronizing, but you did SO good. You saw/caught so many things that most people who watch this don't. Here are a few things about the art in the video. As an art major with an art history minor, I totally geeked out in this video! A lot of them have to do with good vs evil, the idea of temptation and of giving in to it, being vain, letting things go to your head, etc. First, the painting Jin is staring at the beginning of the video is called The Fall of the Rebel Angels by Bruegel. This painting depicts the war of good versus evil. The angels cast the demons back into the hell from which they came. And you already noticed the black and white door on either side. You're absolutely right about Icarus and the chocolate wings. Also, if you watch carefully, in the purple lit scene where they're all posing/sitting there's a neon light behind the members that says The Tempter, and the painting behind them is The Lament for Icarus by Herbert James Draper. This same painting is the one in the background in all the scenes where Jungkook is hanging on the swing or just floating in the room. The painting in the back when V jumps off the balcony is also of Icarus. It's Landscape with the Fall of Icarus by Bruegel. This painting is also on the right side wall in Jungkook's room. That mean looking darker statue in the main room where they all dance is Perseus with the Head of Medusa and it has something to do with the idea of Medusa flaunting her beauty in front of the Gods, or the statue of Athena. I couldn't possibly list all the statues and paintings in the video, but I'll finish with the sculpture that was shattered, the one where you asked if it was the Virgin Mary. Yes. It was. It's La Pietà, by Michelangelo. It depicts Mary mourning over her son’s corpse after His crucifixion. It's shown with J-Hope, a member who, in the storyline, has a lot to do with mothers and mother figures.

"Did he mean to throw it off and then back on?" HAHAHAHA that one of the biggest jokes of BTS existence because according to Jimin the jacket flip was an "ACCIDENT". Of course no one believed that, I'm not sure he even believed himself when he said that. If you pay attention to him in other newer videos he'll do it constantly, even in photos. Stylists dress him in flippy jackets constantly so he can continue to have more "accidents". 😂😂 Thank you for the reaction.

From the themes of Demien and Neichte I think the MV is acknowledging that growing up requires some shades of gray. That you cannot be your full self until you've seen some darkness and been tested. However, unlike some armies, I don't think they are saying that it is a GOOD thing, only acknowledging it. After all, after Jin kisses the statue (gives into temptation) everything starts to break, bleed and cry. It's not shown as a good thing at all.
@ashleyder91644 жыл бұрын
I 100% agree with you. I think acknowledging the realities of growing up is not the same thing as advocating it.
@ashleyder91644 жыл бұрын
I have found that a *lot* of ARMY tend to watch certain theory and explanation videos and take them as god-given truth without engaging their own analytical minds to it. And so often what we hear isn't necessarily what 'a lot of ARMY think' but what a few popular theorists think that have then been swallowed and repeated by their viewers.
@OhSleeper02874 жыл бұрын
I definitely agree with the first part of what you said, but not necessarily with the idea that giving into temptation is a negative, at least not 100% of the time. Right after V's back is exposed the next scene is a literal burst of bright and vibrant colors. And yes, Jimin and the statue are crying but again, they chose to use vibrant color. I see that as possibly an expression of liberation or freedom. Freedom from what though- from temptation? From limitations? From the confines of adolescence? I know BTS has given us a basic idea of what the song and video are about but unless they explain every single scene as they truly interpreted it we're all just left to endlessly hypothesize lol But that's half the fun of watching BTS music videos! So many amazing conversations stem from the differences in ARMY's interpretation. 💜

Loved ur take. 💜 This mv has a theme of losing innocence and falling into temptations. The album which the song belongs ( WINGS) is based on the book Demian by Hermen Hesse( the quote in the middle of the song when the music stops is from the book it goes " he too was a tempter he too was a link to the second the evil world with which i no longer wanted to have anything to do". Sry if i didnt quote word for word. The book tells a story about the boy sinclair who grew up in a very conservative religious house hold and goes through a journey where his actions are tested. The organ played by yoongi (Buxtehude passacaglia) is played by pistorious for sinclair in the book. the kiss is also from the book where sinclair is given a kiss from fraueva by Demian . It has reference to Greek mythology (icarus and Abraxus) and also religion. The painting jin was looking at in the beginning is called "the fall of the rebel angels" by Bruegel. It depicts the war between the fallen angels and humans. The green stuff he was drinking is absinthe .U can see the absinthe-imbibed suger lump on fire before RM drinks it. It is a hallucinogenic drink. It simbolizes creativity and liberation as well as madness and despair. Well that's how u fall into temptation ( not being able to beat the desire bt knowing ur nt supposed to. the text written above the mirror where jins face is cracking it says "Man muss noch chaos in sich haben um einen tenzenden stern gebaren zu konnen" quote from nietzche meaning " you must have chaos within you to give birth to a dancing star". So about the face crackin in the book damien says" the bird fights its way out of the EGG the egg is the world. WHO WOULD BE BORN MUST FIRST DESTROY A WORLD. The bird flies to the god. That gods name is abraxas."so in the book seven sermons to the dead by carl jung"Abraxus speaketh that hallowed and accursed word which is life and death at the same time. Abraxas begetteth truth and lying, good and evil, light and darkness in the same word and in z same act."( fun fact he is the author of the book map of the soul where their most recent era is based on... he incorporates concepts from Nietzche). There is also painting behind yoongi in the first room with the fallen chandeliers where the music starts called the lament of icarus by Draper. The picture where tae jumps from the balcony is also a painting called the fall of icarus by Bruegel. There is so much symbolism, historical, mythical, psychological, and litrary reference so its hard to explain everything but generally its a coming of age story where u are at a certain point where your traditional beliefs and social norms constrict u bt u r tempted to go beyond them. When u find yourself and ur accepting of who u truly are thus shedding your old immature (childlike view of the world) and giving birth to a new you who understands that life is nt always black and white...thus achieving self realization. Sorry for rumbling.💜 Ow and there are bits and pieces tying to the BU like where there is a different flower inside the reflection of the mirror bt most of the BU reference stand out in the Japanese version of the song. So it's kinda telling two stories in one ... it's kinda complicated 😅.

I appreciate your genuine reaction. This MV really has a lot packed in it. That chaotic brilliant mind is in reality all the members, Mr. Bang (CEO), Bighit and all the staff, choreographer (s) and stylists. The members read a lot. Namjoon (RM) has a deep love for the written word and various art forms. And so do the other members, just with slightly different degrees and points of interests. I remember that it was mentioned that BTS's involvement is from concept to fruition. Suga once likened their craft to a year round songwriting camp. They're always writing, contributing, producing and creating. It may not see the light of day today but tomorrow's another day, another chance. That non-stop artistry and process of discovery, growth, tenacity for improvement, genuine love and respect for their craft and people around and surrounding them is ultimately what keeps me continuing to support them. Of course the honestly relatable music and lyricsm that is synonymous with BTS and their undeniable skills and talents play a major part in it, too. I just recently subscribed so I still haven't checked out all your reactions/content. Have you reacted to their earlier content/MVs? They even have dance practices. As you are an actor/filmmaker/producer(?)" N.O (No Offense) might be of interest. The same with "I Need You", "Run", "Danger" (tbh all their MVs bring a different vibe). If you are interested in their no singing/no dancing but just acting (mostly) comedic skills you may want to watch their freebie short films that they gifted ARMY like "Flower Boys Bangtan High School" and "House of ARMY". The latter has a lot of fandom inside jokes. Again, thank you for your appreciation of BTS and my apologies for the rather long comment. Onwards and upwards!💜

Wow, totally impressed by your assessment/reaction for your first time. I think because of your varied background in the industry, you are able to see and hear more than on the surface level. Most of us Army have seen dozens and dozens of reactors and have watched the same videos over and over and it never gets old. BTS’s music and mvs are timeless, in my opinion.

Great reacton analysis! I'm glad I saw someone reference it. This is probably my favorite BTS video. The temptation angle is spot on. I think you have to also understand where BTS was in their journey to also appreciate the background to the symbolism.

Yes! They are acting as the temptations as well as the tempted, in one of their other songs they warn against getting too obsessed with them. It's not what this song is about but it might color armies interpretation as they watch this, knowing that bts themselves are a dangerous temptation

I love meeting people who know about drum and bugle corps. I marched in a corps throughout highschool. The level of discipline and focus one puts into competing is crazy hard. As a result of spending my summers competing, allowed me the opportunity to be the drum major of high school, while also cheering during the same game. I would direct the halftime show, but cheer during the rest of the game. If feel blessed to have memories like this. Thank you for mentioning drum corp. I don't think us band nerds get much credit. I tell everyone I was a cool nerd, balancing cheerleader with band nerds. ☺️ Good memories. P. S. I love your analysis. Very detailed and introspective. You are very knowledgeable in what you do, and it makes one of the most interesting reaction videos. Excellent work.

Fake Love MV turned me into ARMY too 😄 i didn't know them then, seen a little and was more like a outside onlooker. but fake love... oh, i found myself going back to her every day and think, think, *think* about it it may not change your whole world perception, but what i agree with: BTS and their craft always give a food for thought in enjoyable way. you go to them for some good visual or vocal or choreography and you end up educating yourself about so many things within art, literature, society, yourself. they are serious about their influence and message, i can't put it words how much i appreciate them

The kissing of the statue is the actually falling into temptation.. and the cracking of the faces mean the end of innocence. The message over the mirror talks about destroying a previous world (innocence) to create another (to become knowledgable of the ways of the world). All the video is emphasizing a person's journey/life and all the changes one experiences as one lives. By the time a person becomes mature, there normally is no trace of innocence left. Lots more symbolism.💜💜💜💜

Welcome to the rabbit hole of BTS. This is one of the best reactions I've seen. You seem to truly enjoy the videos. There is a BTS Universe within which they can deal with the trauma youth go through that most of us don't have to go thru but then there are those that must suffer to become an adult. BTS tries to make videos that are catching our attention but realize always they are dealing with a message and that message is that no matter what you have to go through you can be yourself and grow to be what you need to be to become an adult. That was why this album was the first in a trilogy of Love Yourself Albums. It was also known as the wings tour since the first Love Yourself video "Blood, Sweat and Tears" is full of wings symbolism. And you were so right it totally is about temptation and falling and right and wrong and death and life. You get it but its so much more, this video is just about the middle of the BTS Universe that started in 2014 and got to it's peak around 2016 that was about the time of this video. Enjoy the rabbit hole is deep but so much fun. By the way the video had a different tone. So much so that some of them even went on a diet to make sure that this looked like a piece of art, they succeeded. Also the song, the video and the dance may not all be related in the way you think. Yes he did mean to throw it off then back on.

It was such a delight to watch this and see your analysis unfold! Sometimes it’s entertaining to see people’s faces when they go, “What did I just watch?” when they react to Blood, Sweat, and Tears for the first time, but it’s so satisfying to see someone perceive and appreciate all those details that set BTS apart. Every time I watch this music video, I notice something new. Their level of craft is truly inspiring. I bet you would love the video for Daechwita by Agust D (Suga, one of the members of BTS, makes his mixtapes under the name Agust D). The video, again, is more of a film, and the plot carries tons of subtext. The historical references in the lyrics also carry tons of subtext. It’s a masterpiece.

I feel like you are already an ARMY, you're appreciation for their artistry is wonderful to hear and your reactions are so thoughtful and honest. At some point you should to learn about them individually, they're all so unique, incredibly inspiring and lets not forget incredibly funny. BTS have a way of drawing people in, they make many of us think about ourselves, others and the world in a different light but I think it's different for everyone. Also BTS have very much have encouraged everyone to learn and expand on their own world and to see more points of views. To not put up with things just the way they if you are not happy, to always seek to improve yourself or situations you may find yourself in. For me I now feel like BTS are part of my story and because of that I will continue to seek to improve myself and help those around me. If I feel stuck I will listen to their music, read the lyrics and thing about what I can do to move forward. I also think they have also inadvertently created a movement where people are happy to support others whom they don't even know, ARMYs help each other all the time we aren't just there for BTS and the other way around we are here for each other to. BTS are truly special and I don't think there could ever be another group like them, we are so luck to get to learn about them and that they share so much with the fans.

Good job... Excellent reaction... Paying attention to details and having your own interpretation is really refreshing for us. Most of their videos have explanation videos, as they are using so many symbols and so many references (from literature to movies)... So it's really nice to see somebody with your background enjoying everything during the "finding hidden meaning" process... Their lyrics are so goddamn complex that sometimes even after 20 readings and interpretations, one can still feel puzzled. Thank you for taking this path. You won't get bored. :)

These are videos that should win MTV video awards. The BS videos that most artists produce are nothing compared to the artistry, symbolism and pure brilliance of what goes into a majority of BTS videos. We can only hope that since Dynamite has open the eyes of many new fans that they will now be recognized for their incredible work.

This is my first video of yours, and I really like the way you look at things. It's amazing that you're pretty much right on about the central themes. I'm sure 500 other people have mentioned Demien and the whole temptation of innocent youth theme, so I'll leave that alone. LOL But just so you know, some of us have been watching this video for years and still haven't unpacked it all, so don't feel bad. If you're interested, there are a few analyses around just about the art in the video. A good one on Tumblr is "Art and Symbolism in BTS’s Blood Sweat & Tears".

We studied, and researched, and brainstormed to figure out each element in this MV. The paintings, the statues, the green drink, the green candle wax, the flowers on the mantle, the dining table scene, the quote... all mean something. BTS/Big Hit have made an ARMY that reads and thinks and makes connections, We know that EVERYTHING in the BU MVs has some meaning, and a reason to be there. There is no coincidence with BTS MVs. You are the first reactor to see a connection to Jesus Christ Superstar with the poisoned grail. I was thrilled when you saw it. Not many do. And yes, I read Maximum Ride books! Think Last Supper for the dining table scene, and connect the apples on the plates to the Garden of Eden. The painting in the beginning is The Fall of the Rebel Angels, the painting in the balcony scene, where V jumps, is the landscape of the Fall of Icarus, and the painting behind the chandelier/couch is also about Icarus. The last scene with Jin and the mirror... look closely at the flowers... one is the reflection, but they are different.

This is the song that pushed me down the BTS rabbit hole. I was in colorguard (drum corps), I come from a drum corps family and taught indoor/outdoor colorguard (drum corps, band and WGI). The part in the dance where 14 feet go up and they all land as one, that is so difficult to clean. The first time I saw that, I knew BTS was going to be an obsession. They are well worth all the time I have dedicated to listening to their music and watching videos. I read the Hermann Hesse book JUST for this video. I think you are the first reactor I have watched that got so much meaning out of the video. Your experience with the medium and I think your religious background served you well for this interpretation. I really enjoyed going through this with you. I enjoy learning about how videos/shows/movies are made and how music is produced, so your reactions have been very interesting to watch. Thank you. 💜💜 I hope you enjoy ON Kinetic Manifesto. I competed against the corps involved and was so happy to hear they got to have this experience. I can only imagine how special it was for those kids. Especially in 2020 when the drum corps competitive season got canceled. That may have been the last big performance they got to do this year. ENJOY! I am looking forward to more videos. 💜💜

if you want to dive deep into the metaphorical meanings of this MV, there is a series of short films that came out as teasers before this MV that tell a visual 'story' or 'concept' for the entire album, they are the Wings short films. They are a beautiful masterpiece of art and I highly recommend. There is a quote used in this MV, which might seem out of place, but it all ties to the short films as well.

I still get blown away by their artistry. And their production company Lumpens. Its like they pushed themselves to the point that they will match BTS artistry in lyrics and enhance the song so much through the lens. Its a deep deep rabbit hole that I am super fine to be in. I stumbled on your page and so far, I have enjoyed it and more ARMYs will watch as you dive into their work. Thank you for honoring BTS in your reviews. Someone advised Spring Day and honestly, I think you really WILL want to react to the MV and the MV theory explained for it. There is a huge amount to unpack in that one for symbolism in it. It's also supposed to be written in honor of a South Korean tragedy.
