I'm a little confused. I rigged my character model with AccuRig and exported for Unreal. When I create the IK rig for my custom mesh there are bones missing. My rig doesn't have cc_base_hip. Also, the structure of your rig is different from mine. Starting from the top yours reads, root, cc_base_hip, cc_base_pelvis, etc. Mine reads, root, pelvis, cc_base_pelvis, etc. Why is this?

Hi! It has to do with AccuRig 1.1, now it is way easier to reuse and retarget, when you choose Unreal as the export option, it already has the Unreal skeleton bone names. You can just copy the setup from the Characters>Mannequins>Rigs>IK_Mannequin rig setup, with small differences in the twist bones which you can do from my video, I don't know if it grants making a new one just for this. Let me know if this solves the issue for you.

I think you might have the same rig structure as me. I also used Accurig and it's not the same as in the video but I managed to make it work, I put you the link of the images of my skeletons hoping that it helps you. drive.google.com/drive/folders/1yN4GX3-iKW-V4V3GJ5o_HiO7Gb7dxIv6?usp=share_link

I want to say thank you to you for making this. I have been struggling with 5.1, and this video really helped clear a lot of things up for me. Please keep making more things like this, it was incredible to watch!

Great to hear! Thanks for your kind comment! Comments like these really make my day and make all the effort worthwhile. I have a lot of tutorials coming, I don't want to spoil the surprise, but I think you'll like an animation series I'm working on.

@@UnrealGems I'm actually using Unreal Engine for making short films, not video games. So videos like this are hard to come by. Because I need things to look 100% correct. I wish it was easier to find videos for working on the short film side of Unreal Engine. If you could consider from time to time throwing something out there, I'm sure it'd help gamers too since they have to make cutscenes for their games. =)

Yeah, no problem in fact for my latest character shading series I was playing with the new anamorphic camera in UE. The oval bokeh and convolution lens flares look amazing. My main problem is time, I do this apart from my full time job. Were you thinking about something in particular?
@yearight1205 Жыл бұрын
@@UnrealGems so a lot of Unreal Engine is structured around making things happen when you turn the game "on." But in sequencer you setting up a blueprint in which let's say an effect goes off, or let's say you want to record a boat on water, or sails flapping in the wind. It's not a very reliable system for that. My question is, how do you get more control of the world when filming? And if that's too much of a project, then I'll settle for a quick and easy way to remove water from the inside of my boat for animation. 😂 I still haven't found a satisfactory way of doing this and I need to do it for a small fishing boat that you see the inside of the boat, but boat is filled with water currently.

Got it. It's always good to get ideas. To be honest, haven't thought a lot about the problem, but I think exposing variables in your BPs that you can then control from sequencer I think would be the way to go. You can also simulate physics in-game and record it for use in sequencer. About water, I haven't had that issue, so not sure how to solve it, maybe with chaos vehicles and a correct physics asset or something like that.

@Unreal Gems The more details, the better. Basically, it's a free one on one tutoring video, which is what people want. P.S. A lot of the tutorials you have are for mid/advanced users since they're geared towards very specific issues UE developers run into later. If you made videos geared towards learning the basics like navigating the viewport and creating your first AI enemy, I'm positive your channel would blow up.

great tutorial, thanks! one question about the capsule/mesh child mechanic. is this a good way to work for games? or will there be problems for example with replication, collision or other things?
@UnrealGems Жыл бұрын
Hi! I think there should not be any problems. In terms of replication if I remember correctly, animations are in place, so there should be no problem. Collision of the parent skeletal mesh should not be a problem, since it is hidden in game, it should not have collision. The capsule you can adapt to the child skeletal mesh and you should be good to go! 😁
