I feel like the more insight an actor gets on more and more different types of acting techniques, the bigger a repertoire of strategies, tips, and ideas we have to pull from to make the scene that much better and that much more exciting✨ I'm disabled, and I feel that there's been no better time to pursue a career for disabled actors than now. I'm thrilled I get to be a small part of the change that's been coming to film and TV in terms of disability representation. Every time I think of the power of nondisabled folks being able to connect with disabled folks on screen, I feel so full - I'm just astonished at how privileged I feel to be a part of it. :) Plus, I'm an avid reader, always up to my eyeballs in stories, nonfiction guides, and memoirs, and I truly feel like a deeper understanding of the human condition means a deeper understanding of the next human I get to play! Having read How To Stop Acting, and Audition, I can attest to how valuable these books are, especially for beginner actors (such as myself). I 100% agree with you Wendy that knowledge is power, and I would love to add more books to my collection. I would also strongly recommend How To Audition On Camera by Sharon Bialy, for my beginner actor friends. This is a veteran casting director giving valuable tips that you can use right away to improve your auditions!

I try to save money for acting classes and borrow books from my library. But sadly some are lacking. I really wanted to read the Shurtleff book. I'm going to have to go in to request it (unless I get your giveaway copy 😉 which I will share with my acting friends when I'm done.) The same goes for A Life in Parts. Fortunately, an acting friend of mine lent me her copy of The Actor's Life, which I THOUROUGHLY enjoyed! My favorite chunk of wisdom from that book is to persevere even after you book your big role. I LOVE THESE BOOKS because every book has something to offer. I believe there's never an end to learning and especially in our industry. Also, I believe just like any other professional (doctor, lawyer, scientist, etc), actors need a lot of studying as well. The more we read these books the better we get in our craft and that's the first and foremost criteria to be successful in this industry. The authors of these books have experienced this industry very deeply and it'll be a blessing to learn their experiences. Is there a.. I'm not sure how to phrase this.. "talent/skill subset" to playing a great, effective villain? Not a mustache-twisting, cackling bad guy that does what he does just because, but a character that can to some degree be empathized with? I'd be very interested to know know if there's an instructor who knows how to teach the ABC's of playing a great villain. And it would seem prudent to know your type before you start making demo reels, or am I wrong? Been watching and adoring you for years.
