Lots of underage boys joined up. My Great Uncle left the green fields of Ireland to fight in France. Private Ryan was awarded the Military Medal for bravery before being wounded in another battle, patched up and sent out again to fight at the Somme, where he was killed in 1916 aged only 20 years. He is remembered at the Thiepval Memorial.

When he said "age before beauty" in the film, I started noticing just how close the two characters were and got very intrigued by their chemistry as friends. It wasn't just him making fun of him or poking at him, it was also the George character saying that he was willing to put down his life for the other guy, no matter how they quarreled. I do not think that was a good way to describe it but I tried and am tired

The film came out here in U.K on January 10th, these two didn’t even register on my radar, but after watching the film twice now, this wed and Thursday i can confidently say they were both robbed of a nomination for lead and supporting actor nominations. The film is one of if not best war films I’ve ever seen, a tour de force in cinematic history!

It was so cleverly done. Not just with the one-take thing but where the camera is at certain times. Just before THAT scene around halfway though for example the camera deliberately is trained on George when he's at that water pump so we literally only see what he sees and realise as he realises, if that makes sense. Sorry, hard to explain.
